Help IDing a Schwinn
Howdy,
Last weekend I picked up a Schwinn World and I have no idea what year it is. It has a "Made in Taiwan" sticker on it and the stamping on the BB says "68K". Rear cluster has 5 cogs and a double up front. Frame is lugged. Any ideas? Thanks.

Look at the rear drive side dropout for Gmmyy, where "G" is Giant (Taiwan), mm is the month and yy is the year the bike was manufactured. You can also look for four small font digits stamped into the head badge. The first three digits are the day of the year the bike was assembled (001-366) and the fourth digit is the last digit of the year the bike was assembled.

Without pics can't say for sure, based on info given it would an 82/83 model which were the only years they had a 5 speed rear and were made in Tawain. These were an entry level model in good ready to ride condition typical worth $125-150. you should be able to match it up with the catalog specs and pics here.

Yep, forgot all about pictures...
I will take a look at the drop out. There was nothing stamped on the head badge.
Ok, thanks for the link. I will check it out.

I looked at the drive side drop out. There was stamped the following: "G0386" So if I read the above correctly, that would be a Giant built frame, made on the 38th day of 86, correct?

That means the frame was built in March 1986 by Giant. The 4-digit number stamped in the headbadge will indicate the day the bike was built.
