"Late 80s early 90s Italian Miele Gara 54cm Road bike": what's it worth?
I'm looking for a decent used bike for endurance training to support my xc mountain bike racing. There isn't much of a market here in Central KY, so this item on ebay caught my eye.
Seller's description:
Thanks for your help,
Michael
Seller's description:
Up for auction is a late 80s early 90s Italian Miele Gara 54cm Road bike in excellant to mint condition, all original paint looks to be a silver pearl color and is Hand painted sikkens acrylic urethane finish and Miele chrome forks,The only scratches is from storage and very small.components are as listed Cinelli bars and stem,Durex hard anodized rims with DT swiss spokes and are straight and true,Linea sport tires,Avocet gelflex saddle, and all matching Shimano 600 components, brakes, pedals, headset, cranks, front and rear shifters. This bike looks brand new and has no issues what so ever..shipping is in the USA only please feel free to ask questions and bid with confidence.
So I'm in the somewhat challenging position of wanting a decent used bike, but not wanting to pay very much for it. Is this bike worth buying? The starting bid is $200. Seller wants $100 to ship. Or I can drive four hours to pick it up.Thanks for your help,
Michael

That is a very sharp bike with nice components (600 Tri-color), I'm thinking north of $350 + shipping.
Edit: Would be a great bike to own and ride. Personally, I would probably go about $300 total, but I don't normally pay much for bikes.

If the bike is a Gara, it will be Columbus SLX tubing. The Gara was a very high end Miele and would be a worthy ride. For what it is worth, I have seen only one other higher end Miele, and I lucky enough to have one of those.
Are you sure the bicycle is Italian? Most Miele bicycles were of Canadian origin.
