There were thousands of naked riders at this years Solstice Parade in Seattle.

Being there I could only think of two things,

Wow there sure are a lot of old vintage bikes that got dragged out of storage.

I sure wouldn't want my jewels around them rusty stem shifters.

Must be something wrong with me.

Doesn't exactly qualify as C&V, but if I had to ride naked she'd be my first choice.

I think I mentioned volunteering to be a riding mechanic for the WNBR. I'm riding the Xtracycle because it can easily carry a floor pump and supplies. I'm packing inner tubes of different sizes, a patch kit, tire levers, a chain tool, your basic wrenches, latex gloves, some big zip ties, and I've attached a work light to the bike (the ride is at night). We are supposed to bring a first aid kit but for me that basically means bandages, Neosporin, and an old blanket; I'm not competent to use anything else. I think I'll carry some beer. The ride is Saturday.

I can only imagine how hard it would be to fix a bike with a naked woman standing there in front of me? You sir, are a true professional.

Thanks, perspective's everything

I rode a naughty night ride at the 95 messenger championships in TO. Good clean fun. Saddles clean up.

Nudity side note from the day. The tarck stand comp went about 45 minutes, won by a young woman who continued her stand and victoriously went hands free and peeled her T shirt off in celebration and hurled it at the vanquished loser, who hung his head in shame.. It was all guilt free mirth.

I think society needs to embrace non-sexual incidents of nudity as someones choice. I think it can't help but to help further a healthy sex positive attitude. Good thing. I don't subscribe to personal nudism at all.

Well put, @-holiday76. I don't feel any urge to participate, but if people want to do it, that's fine. And I don't think it will damage any bystanders, children or adults.

It's legal as it is in essence a protest and therefore is Constitutionally "Protected" speech. And good if you don't want to raise kids in Portland. We are filled up and not accepting anymore refugees! ;-P

We wouldn't want to encourage any "unprotected" speech.

World Naked Bike Ride | As Bare As You Dare

Yes, this is a thing here, quite a big thing actually. And a $5 donation gets you a handy saddle cover.

I have never ridden the World Naked Bike Ride, but have thought about it. My question for you all is - which of your C&V bikes would be your favorite to ride naked?
Having done my first one yesterday in Los Angeles, I would recommend the following:

Something on the lighter side (due to the hills on the routes)
Single Speed (lighter. On the hard hills, many the people walked up)
3 speed hub or actual gears in you are comfortable (quite a few didn't know how to shift)
Nimble is better (due to the city parts)
Upright or straight handle bars (or bull horns if you are comfortable)
Bag for clothes (in case you have to leave the group) and some munchies
Water bottle holder (many people rode cruisers which didn't have them)
Pump (a few people were asking to use one)
Small tool kit (repair cycle truck was in the group, but it's better to have your own)
Lock (for the pre event, break, and post event)
Very good brakes! Riding in a very large group, extremely close quarters, with traffic, cheering or jeering audience, with some riders who have never done it can be challenging but fun. I witnessed a few tire to tire contact and one rear ender. Also, I saw a lot of bikes that weren't well maintained that could cause harm to others.

This event was very organized. Traffic police *******. Lots of fun. Over 400 riders including a few on roller blades, skateboards, and foot scooters. First run was 5 miles, second was 12 miles.

I liked this event due to the positive nature. Body acceptance, bikes instead of cars, paying attention to cyclists on the road. The routes were chosen for enjoyment as opposed to maximum exposure to the public

Here was mine, a 1964 Olmo Special on our first ride together. I impromptued a handle bar bag but it rubbed with the wheel. Will be buying a bike bag for the next event. I just got the bike from the original owner. I thought the brakes were fine after the test ride. Near the end of the ride, they were barely working. Must have been original pads.

My favorite vintage bike on the ride was this Olmo. I asked her about it and she was happy to finally know what it was. No one she talked to before could identify it.

Late 50s? to 60s frame. All other parts were replaced with newer ones. Single speed. I hope see never repaints it.

Rigid MTB with 1.75" or greater slicks or semi-slicks would be my pick. There is definitely no need for speed in this event. You'll want a fairly upright position. I'd have to swap stem/bars on my MTBs for this one. I'd like the bars a couple of inches above the saddle.

The little lady and I rode Portland's WNBR on the tandem last night. Unfortunately our tandem's not vintage but we did have a vintage CyclePro Countryside Originals handlebar bag on it!

But I also think its pretty weird and unhealthy how many people here automatically associate nudity and the human body with sex and disfunction. I guess the kids in parts of Africa and other parts of the world are all running around scared for having observed penises and vaginas, eh?

Anyway, I'd ride whatever bike you want, though perhaps a plastic bag over the saddle would be a good idea
I was there last night. And I have done it a few times. I have ridden: a very quick steering, fun to ride fast fix gear - not recommended, especially if it gets cold! I could barely ride it shivering after the rain started, and my workhorse fix gear several times - works just fine, and once my best fix gear because I did a ride on it that day and drove 3 hours back just in time for the start.

So my take on a good bike? One that is a good ride, not too quick steering, skinny tired or light - all bad when you are cold. A good seat is a good seat, shorts or no. And with normal hygiene, the seat doesn't care.

The ride is not about the bike. The ride is not about body parts. The ride is about: the fact that riding, even with winter clothing, we are next to naked around 4000 pound automobiles, celebrating the bicycle as a way of life and just plain celebrating life doing one of the healthiest things we can do. (And every ride, I see the incredible difference between the healthy feeling throughout the ride and the comments I see here and elsewhere by folk who aren't/weren't there.)

I wore shoes, socks, bike gloves and helmet. When it is not going to be warm, I wear knee warmers. (Knee surgery is a kinda high price to pay to make a point.)
