Hahaha I'd love to see these "tell us how you really feel" signs store-wide. It could be the store's schtick.

Cheng Shin does offer better 26x1-3/8 called "classic Otis." Well it's beefier anyway, but less C&V in appearance.

Look, it could have said "for those too cheap to buy a new bike".
I live near one of the most affluent cities in the USA and they have the most bicycles at the train station in the area. But what's interesting is that they also have just about the oldest fleet, with bicycles form the fifties, sixties and seventies still in good shape and going strong.

At Goldman-Sachs, I understand your looked weirdly as a bike commuter if you don't ride a vintage 3 speed, Raleigh, Rudge, etc., to the office.

Talking about Larchmont? Historically, train station car is a beater, so is train station bike. Why tempt fate? Save the CF bike for the weekend or better yet, go yachting!

Actually I was thinking of Scarsdale, which IME surpasses Larchmont in this respect. And most of those who ride these older bikes don't own other bikes, they've been riding the same bikes for decades. One of the ironies of Metro North is that the more affluent the city, the greater the percentage of riders who bike or walk to and from the train station, and often the farther they'll walk or ride.
Oh, Madmen's Don Draper line. Yep, those homeowners whom want bigger lots have to live a wee bit further out of the old downtowns. My dad worked at the WTC, but he would park a mile away from the Harrison NJ commuter station to get a 20 minute walk in the AM and the PM, rain or shine, 50 weeks a year. He would drive his train station car, starting with a VW bug, until the wheels fell off. In 31 years, he only bought a car every ten years.

Reminds me of the Dudley Moore movie where he was committed to a facility and let the fellow residents come up with ad copy. My favorite was the one for DeBeers: "Two months salary is worth it to keep your girlfriend from sleeping around." Or the one for Volvo: "They're boxy, but they're good." I think the movie would be banned in today's PC environment.
I did know a shop that, for a while, had a sign that said "If you bought it at Walmart, take it there to get it fixed."
He took it down, but charged $35 min on Walmart bikes. I heard a customer question that fee once, and he said "OK, for $20, I'll let you watch me throw it into the parking lot." The customer left.
He remains one of my bike shop heroes.
