1986 Lotus Challenger SX

Going to overhaul, looks like a 56 but with 27 wheels standover of approx 32.5. Second lotus found this season, not in pristine shape but should be a nice rider once tuned/overhauled.

Lotus bikes seem to have a strong following. They were good value Japanese made quality items. Comparable to Centurions & Univegas. Check out this website: https://www.vintagelotusbicycles.com/

Hey

Yes, I think Lotus is underrated for sure but like many brands. Ended up getting this one overhauled, needed hubs repacked, wheels trued, rear hanger realigned, new chain, new wrap. adjusted/tuned, newish tires. Shimano light action f/r, suntour shifters, sr stem, sakae crank, 27 alloy wheels. Very solid rider.

It is interesting that the bike comes with 27" wheels..

I thought these were super under-rated because of the 700c wheelset.

Nice little bike. I want to believe it's an 87 and not the 86..but for some reason the components are a mish-mash..or maybe it was upgraded? Typically there aren't usually downtube shifters. Nevertheless, i really like these.

hey

This is a 86 based on black on tan headtube, was speced with 27 Ukai on suzue, but this araya on suzue 27. The specs are on the vintagelotusbicycles site and you are correct this light action is not stock. Double butted tange sticker on frame, hi ten fork. Though I believe it to be a 56-57cm, with the 27 wheels standover of 32.5+-in.
