Fat tires on this 620. Did this come with 27" wheels and you did a conversion to 700, or was it spec'd with 700c rims and there's just this much clearance?

Sweet. Those are humongous tires on that 620. We'll see if I can manage to resist buying some parts for the build up on my Trek 610 and keep it a pure parts bin build!

The 85 620 was specced with 27" wheels.

I've been riding mine with 27 x 1 3/8" tires. Right now I've got 1 3/8 in the front and 1 1/4 in the rear.

I looked it up after I asked. Gotta be 700c wheels on that 620 though, right? Did the '85's have the same issues with the canti posts being so narrow? I slipped a 700c wheel on my 720 the other day and it was so close.

I have a 520 (84, I believe) which came with 27" wheels. I put 700c wheels on it with no problem. I agree @KOBE's bike looks like it also has 700c wheels. Mine has Dia-Compe 960 brakes. Maybe slightly different geometry than the 981s?

Yes, the canti posts are closely spaced and set for 27" wheels on the 1985 Trek 620. Where this does get tricky is the adjustability of the brakes. I'm only parroting stuff I've read on the internets (I still have 27's on mine)- but there's only a few cantilevers that have the kind of adjustability to go low enough and push more "together" instead of "down." The stock XT BR-MC70 brakes are really cool- as are the XT M732 brakes. One of these days I'm going to see if the XC Pro cantis will work- that'd be pretty cool. And pretty.

Robatsu's blog about his Trek 620 rebuild is really good- it kind of details the issues with the brakes.

Yes, I did the 700c conversion and those are 40mm tires. As Golden boy pointed out I did the same and followed Robatsu's blog and everything fell into place when I switched to an older style (80's) brake. The Tektros just did not go down far enough. It also helped that my rims are fairly narrow at 15mm for that wide of a tire. I adjusted them a bit today and it improved the braking a lot, but old style canti's for me is a lot of guessing and hoping to get it right.

Finished assembling my 1981 Benotto 3000 a couple weeks ago. I used Campagnolo SR/NR, Cinelly stem/bar, Modolo professional brake levers/calipers, some random 700c wheels I had. Its been a great rider so far. No cracks on BB that I can find.

1985 Pinarello Treviso

This is my $30 Pinarello Columbus SL frameset I had picked up at a local estate sale. It had quite a mix of parts on it but I wanted a complete group for it. Now its time to build this frame.

I have a feeling that the heat issue which caused all the problems was something which would have caused them to fail early. Some frames were likely not overheated, and are probably fine. That is, of course, just my opinion. IANAFB.

Lovely bike, BTW.

Having found a set of NOS tires and inner tubes for the balloon bike and a proper rear wheel for the double top tube anchor without a screwed up rim, it now seems prudent to restore both bicycles and that is my new Winter project which won't even begin until next Spring(off to Jamaica soon)...

I have just about everything for my Raleigh International project gathered, and half the stuff is installed on the frame. But now I discover that the BB I installed has too short a spindle. Well, I have a few others lying around to try.

Finishing up my MTB dropbar conversion, just have to run cables at this point and make adjustments. Then, I'll tear into a '71 Raleigh Sports that I'm rebuilding for my wife.

Finally got something for this thread and I'm completely excited for it. Thanks to @MiloFrance for making this deal happen. Mid-1970's Gitane Olympic (repainted with braze ons added to the frame). It's in great shape and is earmarked for Cino Heroica next September.

I didn't have anything C&V in progress, but my BIL just turned up a Ross Paragon, mostly-stripped, no wheels or shifting or brakes. Decent looking lugs and forged dropouts and the ting of butted tubing. Weird semicircle fork ends instead of lawyer lips. Searching here on BF tells me it has stout (1-.7-1) Ishiwata 024 tubing. It still has its SR Aerox 118 bcd crankset and Sakae handlebars.

This will get the full Campagnolo SR gruppo off my 60cm frame bike. This Pinarello has a 58cm frame and was a better fit for me.

Just put the final touches on the Ellis. Not vintage, however nice hand crafted Steel with some classic bits.

^Very nice! Another bad-ass pink bike in your fine collection. Those Paul hubs and cranks are really cool.

Was that custom-made for you? Such fine craftsmanship.
