Cannondale r500, 39cm mini

I have not seen a Cannondale this small, measures 39cm center of crank to top of seat tube/top tube intersection, did they make a child's version? Aluminum fork plus rsx makes me think early to mid 90s.

Are those 24" tires?

Add some drop bars and some narrow tires, and it could make a sweet little road bike (or I suppose Cross/Gravel bike).

Nice bike. Is that rear brake mounted properly?

I have a mid-90s R500 in 43cm with 650c wheels, with drop bars and brifters. Both my kids rode it starting at about age 10. Never seen one as small as 39cm. These are great starter bikes, very light

Cool indeed! Not much ground clearance with those cranks, by the looks of it.

Hey

Thanks for the feedback. John is correct this is a 43 measured center to very top of seat tube (so now I know how to correctly measure a cdale!). There is a reference to 1996 r500 compact that came in smallest size of 43. These came with 650c wheelset but noticed post buy the original wheelset was replaced with 26 at some point, bar and shifters removed. The rear brake is not stock and is probably mounted backwards b/c it is designed for right side cable entry. The rear wheel needs to have 2 spokes replaced, and other overhauls of course.

I picked this one up as a keeper for my daughter but she probably will not be tall enough to ride it until next summer. Came stock with rsx, and still has that crank, f/r derailer, front brake. The crank is close to the ground but somewhat of an illusion. Even with mismatched hardware and non stock wheels, the frame is in very nice shape and probably somewhat uncommon I would guess.

Looks like a fun little bike! I built up a roadie ('81 Fuji SJ-10) for my 11-year-old and she loves it.

If you want to put drop bars on it, I'd be happy to donate some. I've got some smaller bars (38-40 cm) that I'll never use. Let me know if you're interested and I'll let you know what there is to pick from. I may even be able to include a stem.
