I've had two sets of bolt crank dust covers disappear - one from a Shimano Dura Ace crankset and another from a Campy Record crankset. Still looking for them a year on.

the front brake arms off this cheapie which I was fixing up for a friend as a work hack . searched high and low for them .
Gave up looking and dug a couple of old silver used ones out of the parts heap. Sprayed them black to match rear ones , fitted them ,sorted the pads .............................and then the originals turned up tangled up with a box full of chains and freewheels ..........DOH !

Oh the many things. My coworker lost a record titanium barrel adjuster from some mid to late 2000s calipers at work. Over a year later after he had quit and I was still working there we renovated the shop a bit and cleaned up and threw away a lot of old parts. I found the adjuster under the vice bench. He was happy.
I can't recall the last thing that went missing but I am sure as winter settles in and I start to look at some projects that have been hanging around for two long there will be many missing parts.

I recently lost chainring bolts for my classic Campagnolo Super Record crankset. I ordered some generic ones because whatever.

I lost most of my self-respect there once, but have since acquired a modest additional supply.

I'm telling you, I can't find squat when I want it. I'm 37 now, but it's nothing new. When I was in architecture school 15 years ago, I'd be sitting on my stool, and I'd put down a pencil to do something else. I hadn't stood up, but when I wanted that pencil again I'd invariably have forgotten where I put it. It would often take me several minutes to find it, but it was always within arms reach.

I've lost my mind, for sure. And I know that behind my workbench, in that area I can't quite reach are a whole bunch of things like jockey wheels, screws, cable ferrules, a Yakima rack skewer, and a loaded pistol magazine. One of these days, I'll feel inspired to download the tools and storage boxes on the bench and have Number One son help me drag it back to get the treasures but in the interim, I've got plenty of in-queue projects and ball ammo.

I lose tools all the time. Then I lose time looking for them. Then just when I've run out of time to do the intended task I find the tool right there in my toolbox under the 19mm wrench. That's when I often lose my cool. I don't recall ever losing my beer however so it all works out okay.

I'm always losing 10mm and 13mm sockets. Every year or two I have to make a trip to Sears to get replacements.

Victory!
The missing Miyata headbadge turned up a few days before Christmas. It had emigrated from the box of Japanese parts into a box of French parts. To make things even better, today when I was sweeping up I found one of those little nuts that go on top-tube cable clamps--I'd dropped it a couple of weeks back when stripping a recently acquired Gitane frame. Given how small it is, I'd figured it was gone for good.
So endeth 2015.

A carpenter I used to work with would say "Damn it! I've cut this board twice and it's still too short!"

One cheap bike repair stand. I have no idea where it went.
One set of lineman's pliers. They re-appeared.
One folding bike stand, which was perfect for adjusting derailleurs, etc.
Lately, one seatpost attached to a saddle, for a build for a friend.
8 hours of tearing apart the garage found it behind the folded ping-pong table.
I did find a headset bearing. I have no idea which headset it came from, or how long ago.
A lot of bikes, over time. Glad they're gone, in most cases, but wouldn't mind still having the whole kit/kaboodle.
