New-made Raleigh 26tpi BB cups

While searching for bottom bracket spindle info, I came across this company based in India that is still making "obsolete" bicycle parts.

https://www.avirason.com/bicycle_parts.html

The Raleigh cups are especially interesting. I've not seen these on ebay. Even if they are of relatively low quality, they might very well still be a cost-effective option for someone with an old clunker who doesn't want to spend $70+ on a Velo Orange threadless BB.

Some business-minded member of the forum ought to import a crate of these

Looks like they're based in India. No big surprise; Raleigh-pattern utility bikes are still a big thing in the 3rd world, especially India.

Floor tiles, bathroom fittings, and bike parts. Well, why not?

Those Phil cups only work with Phil sealed cartridge bottom brackets. Those will set you back $100, and that's in addition to the $40 cups. That's insane.

I bet those Indian-made Raleigh cups could probably retail here in the U.S. for less than $20 a set.

Well, that's one way to look at it. Another is that I have Phil Wood BBs from the 1970s that are still going strong. And you can find used ones on eBay for reasonable prices. For that matter, you can find lots of used Raleigh 26 tpi cups on eBay for reasonable prices. I wouldn't think those Indian-made ones would last very long, but who knows?

I saw a listing on eBay for some of these cups a while ago. The chap said that they were the correct 26tpi threads, but they were a sloppy fit in the bottom bracket.
He reckoned they would tighten up OK though...

For the time being I would still go for second hand Raleigh parts, as they are better quality...

Recall Joannou selling Raleigh pattern cottered bottom bracket parts which were made in India about forty years back. They also carried some Inidian made leather saddles called Sadem.

No, they also fit SunTour cartridge bottom brackets, and possibly others.

I totally get the "false economy" issue -- and I applaud Phil for making a stellar product -- but it's hard to swallow the thought of spending that amount money when a less expensive cup-and-code bottom bracket would work well for most people under most circumstances.

Just curious, have you actually done this? I only ask because I asked Phil whether their cups could be run with another manufacturer's bottom bracket and they said no, their cups only work with their bottom brackets. I also asked IRD if I could run one of their (Tange-made) bottom brackets in Phil cups, and they said no, Phil uses a propriety size.

Yes, with SunTour anyway:
