How To Find Geometry of 1974-75 Raleigh Competition?

53-55cm

Does anyone know or have the geometry? Or where it can be found?

Thanks

There's a '77 Raleigh Competition listed in the bike geometry project database, but I suppose it's possible that's a Comp GS, which has much steeper angles than its predecessor. Otherwise, perhaps someone here who owns one can measure it up for you.

I'm surprised @nlerner gave you that answer. He should have known that the correct answer is "guess".

That vintage varied greatly If you and I had one of that vintage in a particular frame size, and you had one, the headset angle could be +/- a degree, the chainstays would be different by up to half an inch, and the lugs could be different.

The top tubes seem to be consistently 57cm on anything +/- my frame size (60cm)

Are you trying to find one? Craigslist ad? If you have a link to a picture it would help. As @nlerner stated, the mid-70's saw a change in geometry.

I had one and sold it. I didn't realize at the time just how lucky or unusually good the ride was, for me. I thought it would be simple enough to replace it later with something just as good, if not better -- in terms of enjoyable ride quality.

I have not been able to equal it, though, despite owning, and test riding, a wide variety of bikes, both vintage and current, and in between. Some bikes are closer than others, but none of them is really very close.

One option I was considering is matching it -- either with a custom build or with another bike with the same geometry and similar tubing.

Another option is CL, which I am definitely considering too.

If anyone knows of bikes that might give a similar, lively ride quality, please let me know. Maybe one of them will be equal or even better.

Better is a dangerous term.
As mentioned that timeframe, especially 1975… might be "set up specific"… things varied.
Also, different frame sizes did not all share the same basic geometry.
I think you will need to find one, confirm it is what you want, then buy that or measure it accurately and have it replicated.

Peter Weigle might have a pretty good idea.

If it's really such a magical ride for you, I would suggest you find one and buy it. They aren't all that rare. True sometimes they don't go cheap, but a lot less than custom. There is a beautiful one on Saginaw CL but it's a 1973 and a size up.
