Update AustroDaimler AD-SLE ?

Apologies if this is the wrong forum

Anyway I'd like to update an old AustroDaimler AD-SLE 10 speed (2x5) race
bike w/ a Reynolds 531 frame

I'd like to do 2 things:
1. Replace the dropdown handlebars w/ either flat or low rise handlebars
2. Replace the 2x5 shifters on the downtube with either new trigger or twist
shifters on the handlebars

Suggestions?

Motivation is my 45+yr back finds the dropdown position increasingly uncomfortable.
Bike is in otherwise great condition & I luv the ride.

Thanks in advance

Maybe a tall Nitto stem with "Moustache" bars, and bar-end shifters? Take a look around the Rivendell website:

Nope; my 45 year old (this year) back put in 43 miles today... it feels pretty good! You just need to get the bike comfortable & put in some saddle time.

Hey, my bike is 32 years old, and no creaks. Bar end shifters are a nice classy look. Moustache bars are sweet as well, and would really dress up any bike. Nitto makes the best classic bars, but anything you can find oughtta do the trick. Post some pics of the bike so we can get a better idea of its styling!

I concur about the bar-end shifters; once you've used them, anything else seems like an inconvenience. Moustache bars are good; also good are the narrow, low-rise alloy bars you often see on French and Japanese mixtes. I'd like to get my hands on a set myself.

The hard part about this conversion has been finding a 5 speed
trigger or twist shifter that's compatible with the rear 5 speed
hub & its 125mm spacing.
Any idea if SRAM's P5 shifter will do the trick?
And I still can't locate a shifter to control the 2 spd front derailleur.
Suggestions?

Thanks
