Another "Help Identify this Peugeot bike"
Hi everyone! New to the forum. I finally gave in and got myself a vintage bike. I want to restore the bike as it's been in the storage for years rust built up and some parts have been replaced. So I want to get the original parts or as close to but before that I have to make sure I got the right model first.

Previous owner is not sure but reckons it's a PX10L. I researched the serial number R406 and the rest are hard to read, from what I checked on Home it could be a 1984 (June). Now the 1984 catalog has a PX10L.

Now most of the parts on the list matched with some that don't:
Handlebar: Guidons Phillipe Tour de France
Stem: Atax
Brakes: Weinmann 400
Rear Derailleur: Simplex SLJ 5500
REPLACED PARTS
Chain: unknown
Pedals : Look
Saddle: Modern Selle Italia Gel flow
Rims: Modern Mavic Open Pro
I'm not 100% convinced that the bike is a PX10L but maybe a PRO10? The Germany's 1984 brochure seems to match this but since it's in German I'm just looking at the part's names.

The brake levers are also replacements. Are you sure you want to downgrade the upgrades with original parts? The only thing I would change is the saddle.

Ah yes forgot the brake levers are shimano now. The reason why I want to keep everything as close to original is because I want to enter this bike to next year's Eroica.

Agree about original parts being mostly a downgrade to what you have, as Peugeot originally installed quite mediocre grade components on the bike, like they did on the very similar PSV for that year.
Keep the SLJ top grade components that you have and maybe just upgrade the brakes levers to Weinmann Carrera 400 levers and that bike will truly shine in an eroica event!
A period correct Selle Italia Turbo saddle will also be nice, if your butt can agree with such......

2. I believe, from reading the Eroica rules that a simple upgrade in quality of components, that stay within the guidelines, is approved. Don't handicap yourself with passing up a legal improvement, just keep the letter as well as the spirit in mind.
3. Have a great time riding Eroica Britannia, it is one I would absolutely love to make. A full report, and pictures will be most appreciated afterwards.

Thanks everyone! I'll keep everything as it is for the usual rides but come Eroica ride I'll swap parts to meet the minimum requirements of the event. Will do report and post pictures after the event.

Ah yes you are correct on the seat stays. A bit confusing when the handle bar, stem, derailleurs and brakes matched PRO 10.
That's one shiny PX10 you posted! I'm jealous as mine has a serious case of rusting on the chromed parts. The front forks ain't that bad managed to rub the rust off with kitchen foil but the one in the picture is bad the rust flaked off the chrome from the metal.
