Tommasini tecno, question about components

This past weekend i bought a tommasini tecnos frame, believe its a 92. I am wondering what the best period correct components would be. Im horrible with older campy so i dont know differences and details. I am thinking of going all modern but also curious to see what would be period correct. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a hodge podge of early Chorus, Record and even some of the older Athena sitting here for my 1993 Sintesi build.

I'm sure it will turn out just fine if I ever get off my rear end and get the stuff together in one place for the build.

If you can afford the time, I would look around for a 10 speed Chorus groupset.

Maybe a set of Campy Neutrons would be sweet as well.

BTW Please post a pic of your frameset.

I Concur with Grady!

To me, it doesn't matter how old the frame is. If it's a lugged steel frame, I'll always put an alloy Campy 10 spd gruppo on it. Fortunately for me, I have 4 spare alloy gruppos just in case. (They're not for sale).

Hey OP- howzbout some pics of the frameset??

I was thinking carbon since its a black marble finish but i dont like the current campy crank offerings. I did see that chorus 10 had a carbon option....
Ill post a pic later today when i get home.

Period correct for 1992 will be 8 speed, which with Campy can be done with DT shifters or Ergos. Shiny or carbon 10 speed Campy would look and perform nice on that one though.

My wife has a '96 Tecno Extra and loves it. Hers is red with Campy 9 speed.

A vote for period correct, shiny finish, 8-speed Campagnolo parts and bits. That is a unique colourway there, very nicely done, Tommasinni are one of the brands that has things sorted and offers a near custom frameset for the average guy.

My vote also goes to period correct campy as well. In this case it would have ergopowers. I recently finished building steel framed F.Moser with Campagnolo Record 8 speed.

This groupset performs flawlessly. I was actually shocked how fast and smooth it shifts. I have an 8 speed Dura-Ace to compare (famous 7400 series with brifters) and IMHO Campy shifts better. Also like the aero cable routing. I'm seriously considering Campy 8 speed gruppo (Athena perhaps?) for my next build.
I think you should too

Period correct would also be Shimano 7402/3, 8 speed with either down tube shifters or STI's. Awesome component group, bombproof, shifts perfectly, lots of it out there, plenty of gearing options for the cassette.

Works great on my Tommasini Velocista:

That's right.

My Sintesi was an easy fit for me.

I've missed my Super Prestige, as it was so much fun to ride.

This is what it will look like with various 8 speed Campy bits.

It is getting mostly 8 speed athena, just received shifters, derraileurs, cranks etc and brakes. Having the hardest time finding 8 speed campy wheels. If I had known I could not use modern wheels I would have probably just gone for 10 speed

Boy

I have had this exact same question on 4 framesets I picked up within the last year (yes- I went a little nutso on ebay)

I am trying to keep some period correct , and some , not at all

A Bottecchhia Professional (but a lower dollar cromor model) - is getting a 9 speed Racing Triple setup, Chorus brakes and a set of nice silver alloy Felt wheels (takeoffs from a Campy equipped production bike)

A Vianelli is on the rack now (and has been for a couple of weeks) getting strung up with an 8 speed ergo setup, and a older Racing T crank and RDR, along with some 8 speed Zonda wheels I found

A DeRosa Professional is being built with a combination of 10 speed components ---- I found a polished alloy Centaur compact crankset, plus some NOS Centaur derailleurs, coupled with some older Chorus brakes and new Veloce shifters (chosen only because they had white hoods) - The cockpit is going to be modernized as I want to spend plenty of time on this one

Lastly, - a DeBErnardi I had re-painted a few months back is still hanging up in my office waiting for me to decide what to do with it ----------- This will sound like an odd choice, but i'm really contemplating an Ultegra Di-2 build for it -- again with a modernized cockpit and wheels -- everyone I know who has one loves Di-2, and the word on the street is that the Shimano system is much easier to deal with than Campy's EPS

I think there are a lot of ways to pack the fudge and do it properly with these, --- From a vintage Superbe group all the way up to a modern SRAM Red group and everything in between

BITD They shipped the frames, & forks.. dealer did the final Frame Prep [hence Campag frame prep Tool boxes ]

and then put what ever components the customer wanted, on the Frame .

Yes you do! -- they are sporty looking to be sure ! (not sure about the weight - but don't care much either )

From the limited info I can gather, these are very similar to the higher dollar Shamals, but these are made with Chorus hub sets and are a little shallower in profile

In theory, if you can find some, -- should be able to get them cheaper than a pair of Shamals I would think - (I had to buy a whole bike and part it out to get these though)

Yes, I'm interested in shamals or Zondas, I also might just buy hubs and have someone build me a set.

Seeing a very good condition 8 or 9 speed group from 20 years ago makes me sad that Campy has ditched classy polished and anodized componentry
