Cinelli XA Stem 26.4 mm

What the heck? I love the way this stem looks but the odd size makes it difficult to match up with bars. I found one of these XA stems in decent condition, but the odd size puts me off. I want to use a Nitto 177 bar (ordered a Nitto Rando 25.4 bar but don't like how narrow they are at the top. The 42cm bar I ordered has a 35cm width top so I'll be returning it). Anyhow, what are my options for bars that I can use with the XA? I know some guys here have the XA stem. What did you use? Did you just use a 26.0 bar with a 26.4 stem??? BTW, I read about making your own shims, but I'm not wanting to go that route. TIA.

Get some Cinelli 26.4 bars to match the stem, or get a smaller stem to go with the bars you want. Those are the two best options. I hate shims. They work when there's no other option I guess, but on the other hand there is always another option.

I use a shim, it's not a problem and not visible. Mine is from a beer can but a slightly thicker material would be better.

Toss the XA and get something else. The XA is prone to failure. The serrations in conjunction with the recess for the plastic button causes a massive stress riser.

I would agree with T-Mar completely. Not a terrific design.

Whoa, thanks for the heads up T-Mar and repechage!!! Luckily, I didn't buy it yet...was just about to go back to the shop to pick it up. I think I'll stick with the Nitto Technomic stem I bought, but will definitely change the bars.
