Post your splatter paint bikes
It was a short but cool era. Much cooler than the modern flat black era.
My PDG. Old pic, currently disassembled. Going to be rebuilt with a 6600 group.
Going to pick up this '92 Giant Iguana with an XCM group. Mostly because it's in mint condition, only $60 and the paint is so rad.

I've nothing to add but loving the pics. To be honest, I'm heading down to the LBS this morning and I know I'm going to see nothing but mainly flat black bikes up on display. So ugly and boring.
Keep bringing on the colors!

I always liked the idea. Some of the road bikes might be the ones to hold on to as you can't re-create or re-build that look. They will only become more rare as time goes on

I dunno.....I've seen too many bad home-made splatter paint jobs, that the entire genre just screams "CHEAP" to me.

I think this guy had the technique down.....I don't know if he ever did a bike but if he did, it won't go cheap.
Regards, Ben

None are splatter, these are swirl or dotted (for lack of better known terms) but are from the same period as splatter.
91 or 92 Diamondback Ascent. Good solid rigid mtb.
92 Univega ViaActiva. Hybrid to drop bar conversion to see if i liked riding gravel. Too small for me, but it was great for a trial bike!
92 or 93 Univega Gran Turismo i refurbished and sold. Awesome paint, solid Exage 500lx components. Woulda been a keeper if my size.

Since I took that picture, I swapped out the 48t chainring for a pinned, ramped 46t, the crankset is now 46-36-24 with an 8-speed 11-32 cassette. It does fine on the road, it now has a rear rack and I use it as a commuter, a vacation bike at the beach, and riding on gravel.

Hoping that someone will post a picture of a late-'80s-era Cannondale with the wacky tie-died-looking paint job. They came up with that finish as camouflage for their bikes with inadvertently wavy frame tubes (problems with their heat-treating process).
They fixed the problem pretty quickly, so there aren't that many of those bikes out there, especially since most of their dealers probably steered clear of buying any.

Cruiserized '92 Univega Via Carisma. Couldn't handle the original flat bars. Just about perfect now with the riser bar.
I've also replaced the crunchy, worn plastic Sakae Low Fats with dark blue Stolen Bike Thermalite platform pedals; replaced the Innova chevron tread 700x35's with Continental Speed Ride 700x42; Kool Stop Eagle 2 pads on the rear, Jagwire thin pads on the front to clear the fork. Gonna replace the original grips with ergo palm shelf grips -- much easier on my arthritic hands and wrists.
It's splattertastic. The kitsch... the kitsch.
I'm hoping to find a road bike Univega with the oval frame and splatter paint.
