80's MODUCEL pro-cycling team, Stoke-on-Trent,England

I've put together a blog about MODUCEL, an 80s pro cycling team, based in Stoke on Trent, England, which I hope you find interesting as there was no previous dedicated resource. The blog reveals how the speculative purchase of a frame that caught my eye can make for an interesting journey!

Any info/anecdotes/pics relating to MODUCEL Cycle team and riders incl Phil Corley,Nigel Dean, Dudley Hayton, Mick Morrison, Steve Joughin and Sid Barras would be welcome as further contributions.

Nothing to add, but thanks for for the interesting story. Learned something new today.

What are your plans with the frame?

Good to hear!

I'm planning a full re-spray by Rourkes to the correct 1995 race spec (blue fade/white), but the head tube decal, and red/blue diamonds on the frame might be tricky/expensive details.....the MODUCEL decal on the head tube is a flying Union Jack above a knotted rope which I think relates to the corporate identity/ an historical connection with Moducel. The chromed rear triangle and fork will be retained where possible. Luckily it's my frame size so a full re-build with a Turbo white saddle, Campag Super Record and Simplex gear levers as per the original spec is a distinct possibility.

White Turbo! Sounds like that will be perfect for the paint scheme.

Paint scheme and bike spec will be based on these two pics:

Cool bike. I’m glad you took the time to document the history that you discovered about the frame. I’m curious how it ended up yellow with moducell decals? I really like the 1983 paint schemes.

The best guess is that the rider, Sid Barras had it resprayed and wanted to keep a reference to its history. To have had all the Moducel scripts made up would have added cost especially as the font isn't standard. Regardless of who it was, without that detail the history and the frame's significance might well have been lost.

Had someone who gave me some interesting info on the head tube badge: apparently the knotted rope relates not to MODUCEL but it's the ancient symbol for the County of Staffordshire and possibly a story of a multiple execution!

Nice job on the blog, good job on researching the team's history and riders. I'm looking forward to pictures of the frames once you have it painted and decals applied. Should be a looker when its completed.
