Got all I ever wanted. And I do not miss that I did not go for 1.Gen C Record ( I like it more in a aesthetic way.) But this 8spd stuff work so good, it was realy the most important invention for roadcycling.

A question about front derailleurs when converting: my original front der. is a clamp-on Suntour Cyclone. I'm installing a 105 5600 group, but the new front der. is a braze on. The frame has no tab, and I like the look of the Cyclone. Will it be compatible with the new shifters and compact crank (50-34 from 52-42), or will I have to find a clamp adaptor?

Wow. This is amazing stuff. I was just about to ask about this kind of thing. Kinda gives a guy ideas. . BAAAD ideas.
However, Suntour may be different, as I ran a Suntour GPX FD with 9-sp Sora STI's just fine.
To be dead-on, you'd need a clamp adapter and simply run the braze-on FD.
If you want to run the Suntour, I don't see what you have to lose by simply trying.
If it rubs, and you still like it, set it to rub where you should be shifting, anyway.

If you do white housing, black tape is a must. Well I can't compare handling to my other road bikes since I haven't ridden them in a few weeks. It seems willing to do more than I am on these sandy roads. Not sluggish or anything. I guess I'm not as finely tuned into handling as I'd like to be, maybe because I haven't ridden a badly handling bike!

I look forward to reading more about it as you put on some miles. Chances are, yours isn't too aggressive. My 'Nago has track bike-like angles, and feels like it. I'm glad you are warming up to the 'character' of the paint job. I love the functional beauty of that build.

The FD may move the chain, but it will likey rub, as the geometry was a little different, at least for Shimano of the era.
However, Suntour may be different, as I ran a Suntour GPX FD with 9-sp Sora STI's just fine.

My '87 Prologue setup with 9 speed components. Just finished wrapping the bars but still need to finish a few adjustments (hence the brake quick releases). I still want to replace the concor light with a gray/black arione and I need to find a silver stem, but it's pretty much ready to go. The current build is as follows:

Me too. I do kinda wish this was the red/white instead...and a cm or 2 bigger.
Thanks! My favorite bars are Ritchey Pros with a 26.0 (or 25.8?) clamp in a 44, and they only came in black. I've considered polishing up a set of them the way you did on your Merckx. I'm hoarding those bars, so if anyone has 'em laying around...

Man I'm bumming. After tweaking my fit on the trainer for a while I'm realizing that 55cm tt is just too big for the way I like to ride with modern levers. That and I definitely blew my school year budget on this project, not too good. I could use this money for race wheels. Regret.

If you're still looking for a arione I think I have a black/grey one in my box somewhere that I bought off ebay when I was doing a saddle trial program, but never tried because I was so happy with the way my selle san marco regal fit my butt, so I could probably let that go. Not sure you'd want it though as the words flex wing are a bit worn off one side if memory serves and your bike is so pristine. If you want, I'll see if it's still in there.

Hands down, the prettiest tandem I've seen. I'll bet it's fast.
I dig the old-school Looks.
I did a metric century last year, and was passed by a full-kit group.
They were running a fast pace line and really doing it well.
As I was watching them, a Cannondale tandem came by, WFO, called out,
and simply went right by them, and was out of sight not long after.
I pulled into the 20m stop just as the bike was leaving.
Never saw the bike again.
I think they were packed up and home before I got done.
I can't imagine how fast they'd be on the Bob Jackson.
