'81 716 just finished to use as a winter bike when I travel to places with less than ideal streets/bike trails. 32c Gatorskins so probably not going to fit fenders. Some part bin pieces and others aquired. The 105 caliper barely makes it to the rim in the front so I will see how that goes. 105 rear hub with Mavic rim. The front wheel came with the bike and had been changed at some point to an 8 speed era 105 I hub. I couldn't come up with a 10 speed Shimano crank so Chorus it is.

Not sure what happened to the Trek decal on the seat tube but the paint is in super nice condition after a polish and wax. Yes, the red on the stem is the only color on it. Have to remedy that, and level the saddle.

Fantastic! For some reason I particularly like this in gravel mode. Looks like a lot of fun to ride.

This is how I tend to put bikes together, mix of old and new, yet it all looks right. Cool build.

Zunow Z-1 finished with a SRAM & Zipp components. Still looking for a nice seatpost/saddle combo to finish it up.
Love the little bit of history I have read up on Zunow from these forums and other sources.

Batavus Professional with modern 105, used it for most of my training at the backend of last summer as I really enjoyed the feel of it, even raced it once, as per attached pic; but it was a training league crit, so nothing too serious. Having done two old school frames with modern groupsets, one styling concession I had to make was to keep with an oldschool quill stem - I tried a modern conversion but never looked quite right to me.

Is that you in the front of the pack? Looks like fun.

Front of the picture but 3 rider break up the road, pan flat circuit (tho the back section is so bumpy, it may as well be cobbled), so no real weight penalty from the steel frame. Lots of fun alright and short & sweet 45mins.

My 1993 Specialized Allez Pro, which may not qualify yet as vintage, came stock with Shimano 8sp Ultegra STI, but it was finally nearing the end of its life after years of racing and centuries. I was curious about the SRAM CX-1 crank, so I changed the grouppo to:
SRAM Rival right shifter-lever, SRAM left brake lever, Rival RD (short-cage), Shimano 105 11-28 10sp cassette, no front derailleur and, of course, the SRAM CX-1 single chainring (46T) crankset.

This ride looks really nice - great work ! What stem adapter are you using ? Is that 1" steerer to a 1 1/8" - or a 1" to a 1" - with a 1" stem ? It looks good - if you know the brand.... thanks !

The stem adaptor is Origin 8 brand. It goes from 1" to 1 1/8" so there is no shim used for the stem. I have also used Profile Design brand.

Welcome to the forum.
Seems like 5800 is blowing away the competition right now. For good reason.

Welcome to the forum. Good job on the build.

One winter project is finished, rebuilding my old Schwinn 754 w/ a 6600 Ultegra group. The only things left stock on this is the Tange headset and goofy quill seat post these bikes came with. I'll put clipless pedals when it warms up enough to ride. For now, its probably going on the trainer.

Super clean build. I don's see tape holding the bar tap in the center? How does that work?

A trick I picked up from one of the LBS's. When they wrap, they use a little bead of super glue at the end. They're jobs are much cleaner than what mine was. Plus this tape was harder to work with than stuff I've used in the past. Here's a shot they did on one of my other bikes:
