Tires for Older Cr-Mo Bike

Sorry, I know it's trite, but....would really appreciate some tire recommendations. '89 Miyata.

Araya 700 rims, I junked the old Kendas & went with Conti Grand Prixs, 700x25c. Well, bad choice. Tires have a great feel over 25mph but the hi pressure makes 'em real twitchy at low speed and they don't lock on the rims particularly well.

Any recommendation for a more casual, stable ride tire that with a good bead lock for these older rims. thanks.

For general "around town" tires, I like the Nashbar Prima II's and the Continental Ultra Sport. I had the Ulta-sports on my 1988 Miyata, and rode many centuries on them.

If those GP's of yours are the 4000's I'm surprised you don't like them, but Iwould be very happy to take them off your hands if you don't want them!

Thanks, and yes to the GP4000s

The GP4000s are fast and grippy, but not my cup of tea. It's probably due to the huge 2.4 Holy Rollers I'm riding on my mountain bike; the GPs seem like razors. They'll be on eBay this weekend. I'm going to try those heavy Schwalbe Marathon Pluses; tank-like, ...my style I guess.

When the Marathons wear out, you might try Panaracer Paselas in 28mm or 32mm widths (depending on your clearance). Lots of cush but not necessarily sluggish.

I have a set of Marathons on my mountain bike commuter and Pasela TG's on my old road bike. They are both nice, but the Pasela's win for having a comfy ride with a quicker feel.

And you can buy two Pasela TGs for what you pay for a Schwalbe.

I appreciate the recommendations. Currently, I'm smitten with Bontrager HardCase Race X Lites, on two bikes now. Love those tires, though they are hardly the casual, or low price, tire. Overtime, the Schwables just felt too heavy. I put Panaracer Pasela TGs on my commuter, and those are a truly fine daily tire, and very reasonably priced.

+1 Prima IIs. Can be found on sale regularly at Nashbar for $10. Nice tire at a reasonable price.
