A little contribution from Norway. Heres my friends Koga-Miyata Fullpro, size c-c 53cm, from 1981 and my Miyata 712, size c-c 56cm, from 1987.
Both frames are completely rust-free and in really good shape.
The Koga, Tange Champion frame, has an unoriginal derailleur (a shim 105 in stead of Dura-Ace of 600(?) and front gear (shim 600 in stead of Dura-ace) and shim 105 breaks, but Dura-ace break handles, and tubular rims.
It was like this, for some reason, when he bought it.

Mine, Miyata triple butted frame, has a complete 105 setup with tubular rims, and biopace chainrings and I think the chain, handlebar tape and saddle is the same as it came with. I bought it from Fretex, a thrift store, for 800 NOK (ca. $100)

Well the serial number started with an "M". So that would make it a 1984. Thanks for the tip.

The paint is a lot nicer on the kogas. My traveler is essentially a 1000 with a few added touches like a chain guard and plates on the head tube to prevent rub. Later the BB's were raised slightly to improve them off road...I'm not sure if that's true in 87'.

I'm not sure about 87', but the frames in 91' of the tourers are all basically the same - the main difference is paint and components. I think the world traveler and rando had 3 bottle braze ons instead of two. All are triple splined.

Thanks Aaron. BB looks standard height to me. The randonneur-extra also has 3 bottle braze-ons but only two are mounted at the moment. Have ridden the bike for a couple of days now and think that for comfort I will definitely need to swap the quill stem for a longer and higher one. Riser type maybe. Pity, because I really like the look of the original parts and the fact that the bike is now still 100% original..

No biggie...you put the stem aside and when you want it original, there you go. Those Nitto technomics sure do go high. I love my Koga...congrats, you got a good one!

1985 Miyata 210 in Sandstone

Hi, fellow Miyata lovers. Had this bike awhile, but never seemed to find time to make a thread for it. 1985 Miyata 210, which was a good year for this model, triple butted with cantis and triple crank... sort of a poor-man's 610. As found on CL:

http://i921.photobucket.com/albums/a...210/miyata.jpg

It was unfortunately missing its original rear rack, so I made one using an old Meral design I liked. THis was a learning curve, but I was able to integrate it with the fender since I was doing a custom job. The 28-45-50 didn't work for me, so I changed it to 28-36-45 for the steep terrain where I live and on my commute. 60mm stem went in for the original 100. Deore XT went in for the stock low-end Shimano derailleurs. Suntour Perfect 6-speed 13-30 swapped in for the original Shimano 5-speed. New saddle. Added hammered VO's, MKS touring pedals, and a new seatpost. Even with the original 27 in. wheels, there was a ton of clearance on this frame. Decided to keep the brakes non-aero since the old housing was so cool and in great shape. New paselas. May switch to bar ends at some point, but I've grown used to the downtube shifters now. It has made for a great bike for day rides and commutes. What nice bikes these are, with such a lively response. Thanks for lookin'!

This is one of my Miyata's, all European decals.
When i picked up this bike from the seller it has evening and not much lighting, both tires were flat so i pushed it home while riding my other bike (normal procedures in the netherlands). Once home i gave it a wash and run new cables, tubes, tires and chain and lots of turtle cut and polish. Abracadabra

I have two to show.

Here is my 1985 Six Ten. Just finished the rebuild.

And here's my 1990 Team. It was a NOS frame and fork I bought a year ago and built up with DA (except for headset).

Yikes! No idea what happened with those pics, size and placement. I'll fix them when I have a chance.

OK, I just got my 1986 Miyata 710 roadworthy. This was given to me for free by a retiring and downsizing coworker. It had been in the back of his garage for 20 years or so, was completely filthy, brakes essentially inoperable, and the rear derailleur was jammed up with gunk. After a whole bunch of cleaning, polishing, new cables, tape, brake pads, etc, it turned out to be absolutely pristine under all that gunk except for a somewhat battered saddle. The rim sidewalls have zero brake pad wear on them indicating that this bike has done very few miles. Since I'm making it into my commuter bike with big hills both to and from work, I added a non-vintage (but vintage-looking) Truvativ triple and an Ultegra long cage derailleur that were in my spare parts box. Not totally original, but I think they both look good on the bike. I love the pop of the yellow tape and cables, especially with my computer cable spiraling around the front. I hope I can keep them clean. I think I'll name this bike "The Bumblebee".

Wow, that is a real head turner!

Great color combination and it looks pristine. And for free?! Wow!

As an aside, check that bar stem. It looks like it's way to high, and you wouldn't want that popping out!

Nice bike @davester, I have the same frame in a 54cm. Lot more patina on mine but I still enjoy the ride as I'm sure you will enjoy yours.

cheers.

I will have to wait until morning to get pictures, but I found a 24 inch Miyata unicycle today at the flea market. My son has been wanting a unicycle for a while, so when I came across this one, I had to get it. I think it is from the late 1980's based on the catalog searches. It is in used, but not abused, condition, with the original tire and seat.

I'm not sure how to get the pictures vertical. When I rotated them 90 degrees, they flipped all the way over.

I just picked up a 1988 615. Needs to be gone through, but it seems to be in very nice, original condition with very few miles on it.

Hi All!!

Just happened to stumble into one, the guy was in a hurry to sell, as no one here knows the brand, except for me.

only needed a good service to BB and Wheel hubs, relube the chain. new tires and it's ready, still had the original Miyata 700c x 20 tires, but they where dried up. so i put some Specialized Turbo 700 x 25,missing was the 105 Pedals, came with some Time Sport, and the original bar tape.

it rides very, very well, i had been wanting a vintage hi end bike from back when i started. now i have this one to cherish.

dundas 06-30-15 09:42 PM

My 105 components were from a new bike that someone else upgraded. I used the threaded 105 bb that came with the group.

OldManJones 07-01-15 08:34 AM

Thanks, what type of cable stop are you using?

This is how my 110SP looked before a few little mods, I'll post those some other time!

This is a bad photo, but I'm almost finished building my 85 pro. Really excited to get this on the road. It's all 600 except for the 7spd 105 shifters. Disregard the ugly yellow tires. They'll be Veloflex Master 25s.

I'll take some proper photos in our studio at work once it's done.

They are Dura Ace. They are adjustable, and work nicely.
