Mafac Competition - Quick Question
Do Mafac Competition brakes all need brazed on mounting posts on the forks?
I'd like to fit then to my Peugeot PX60 but it doesn't have any braze-ons at all.

No, they generally mount via a center bolt, like most centerpulls. They may work a bit better when brazed-on, but they don't have to be mounted that way, and usually weren't, historically.

I have a neat little chrome TA bag support that was OE on the Peugeot. Now I know I can use it if I get some Mafac Competions (also OE for the Peugeot PX60). I guess it might even add a little stiffness to the calliper.
Thanks again!

Are you sure that was a TA bag support? MAFAC made these:

They're made to fit under MAFAC brakes. Perhaps that's what you're referring to. Or maybe not.

Hey Dawes-man: if you're buying a set of MAFAC Competitions, be certain that you get the straddle cables. They are specific to the brake, unlike the Racer brakes, and they are NLA. Personally I run Racers because they are cheap and you can use standard cables for the the straddle cable. The only real advantage to the Competitions is the bronze bushings vs plastic on the Racers, as far as I can tell. Racers are still indestructible, though. I took them apart and laid the arms on top of each other and the geometry is the same except for the shorter reach on the Competitions. Some day I might get a set of bronze bushings pressed into a set of Racer arms and have the "perfect" brake.

Thanks for the warning, Karl. Thanks to this forum I've got that covered. I need all the fitting parts so I'll probably go for NOS but there's something in the air and everyone is bidding so high for just about everything I want this month
