Wow, congrats! I've been eyeballing that one for a month! Very, very special bike. I think Jan de Reus was trying to make a chesini-like model for someone special, or someone made a special order. Let us know how the ride is!

Btw pullup used to have a Reus with similar features, but those cranks and deltas are a first for me.

I like your Duell's, they are great riding and looking bikes.

Zieleman, while it sure is an interesting bike with a good histort, it is not really my taste.

I had never heard of Zieleman until I got this 1971 Type Special frame, freshly restored, in a trade with Lotek. He posted some pre-restoration pictures here of the same frame a while back. I’m setting it up as I imagine Ko would have liked, with a Campagnolo Nuovo Record group, Cinelli bars and stem, Nisi tubular wheels, and a Brooks Pro saddle. It still needs a few parts (brakes, headset, new tires) but this is basically how it will look when completed.

Wow, Zieleman has reached Mexico now! That's a really good looking specimen you got there, kroozer. Beautifully composed with the right parts. For brakes, you could also go with Universal (Ko put those on a lot of bikes as well). Did that front tubular go out with a huge bang? I can see the puncture from Amsterdam. Same happened with my rear tubular on a 1978 Gazelle (in the middle of the night, in my living room - yikes!). If you're ever in the European continent for a retro-ride (Retro Ronde van Vlaanderen, e.g.), let us know! We'll make it a Zieleman-ride.

I hardly dare to admit, but I'm having second thoughts as well. I'll give it some more time, but the first 200k on it were a little boring compared to my steel rides. Maybe it's the (way too) smooth Shimano gruppo on it, which makes absolutely no noise whatsoever. The only thing the bike seems to do is go fast. Some might say that is what you want from a roadbike, but I've been loving oldtimers the past couple of years and they put a smile on my face while riding. I'm greeting passersby and in a good mood all the way. Riding Ti makes my face turn into some sort of grimace wanting to push the pedals harder each stroke, not noticing other people on the road and making me feel annoyed when others get in my way. In other words, I took a warp-hole into the 41...

Marty got the Zieleman frame on a Dutch website (Maarkplaatz or something like that). He is the one who picked out the color scheme, had some water-slide decals made, and painted it. The current brakes are Universal 68's but they are too long! The rear brake shoes go into the spokes. I have since found a pair of Campagnolo long-reach calipers and they fit just right. This is my first Dutch bike. It's actually in northern Minnesota at my parents' place, and may never make it to Mexico. I spend a few weeks there every summer-- not a lot of time, but there are beautiful empty roads everywhere and I do a lot of bike riding there. I had to return to Mexico before finishing the build, so the first ride will have to wait until next summer.

I don't know how many Zielemans Marty got through Marktplaats, but the example I took care of came with unpainted frame. The woman had the intention to repaint it, but it never came to it. Hence the bare frame was covered with a thin layer sarface rust. The woman and I met up halfway where we lived and I boxed the frame up and forwarded it to Marty. If it is that frame it would be nice to learn, so I could notify the woman that her frame is reincarnated as brandnew Zieleman in Mexico :)

Yes that is the rust covered, serial number and KZ filed down bike I got from Marie Anna. I've kept in contact with her and she is thrilled that
the bike has been reborn. The original color was red there was still some overspray on the steerer. I originally put the Zieleman World Champion
stripes on the bike when I painted it but it was a newer font and I didn't like it so they got removed. David from Southwestern Frameworks
let me use his paint booth to spray it, and prep the frame. This was the first time I've seen a Zieleman without paint and I've got to say
Ko did some outstanding work, no voids at the lugs, nicely filed and finished brazing.
BTW that's only the 2nd one I've gotten from Marktplaats.

Well, it's nice to see Lotek's back! You did a great paintjob on that Zieleman and good choice leaving those WC stripes out. With that period Reynolds decal it looks like a proper timemachine. You can clearly see the filed down lugs on Kroozer's pics. Ko did the same on my Concorde-painted Zieleman, but a little less filed down on my blue one.

Ooh those have been brutally mutilated by some fixie-loving idiot. The paint on the grey one was almost flawless before he took out his blowtorch&pliers and got mediëval on the thing...

I agree, what an idiot to do that to frames like these.

There are other ways to get creative on a bike apparently.
I picked this up last week thanks Don's sharp eyes. I still kind of wonder how he was able to spot this from the small marktplaats pics where it was branded as a 'victorie bike'

A nice Mondriaanesque colourscheme :rolleyes: and it seems to have been painted twice on different occasions .
The metallic blue probably with cans and the red nicely thick on top of that with a big brush and on both occasions they did not miss the components.
This pic is a lot bigger then the marktplaats ones so you will probably be able to determine the brand already but to confirm:

And just my size as well :thumb: so now I have a great winter project again and it will be sent to Leen to do his magic restoring the paint.
Actually I thought that if I ever was going to repaint a Presto it would be in a Bic-Motobecane orange scheme but you can see from the last pic that the original colour of this frame was gold ( actually from what i now can recover it was even in pretty good condition without any rust and that pisses me off a little bit :mad:)
I am leaning towards just restoring that gold paintscheme and maybe have the headtube and decals painted black. Any other suggestions for a colourscheme ? I prefer the schemes that are period correct for those Presto,s :)

Aside from the horrific paint, that frame looks to be in a better condition than I thought. Those lugs are nicely filed btw. I see Campy derailleurs, shifters and Universal calipers :thumb: How about those wheels, are they anything worth mentioning? And can you tell if here's any chrome underneath the rattlecan goo?

I spotted it from the shape of the openings in the seatstays where the rear dropouts are attached. There's probably a nice name for it.. Thanks to gazing at close-up pics of your blue and red Presto and a couple of Elev12k's Presto's those details are quite recognizable :)

I had a quick look at how the fork looked under the paint by removing some of it.

The chrome is not evenly well preserved as you can see and it even looks like it might have hade chrome socks but I suspect, it being a Presto that it just had a chromed frontfork. The dark stains are not rust by the way but look like some sort of primer remains. i cant see any rust on the frame and it appears to be straight as well

I dissasembled it already, just two more shots of the frame.
Up on very close inspection the Andreas crosses on the seatlug can just be seen under the fat layer of red and according to the serialnumber this was made just 15 bikes after my other Presto.
The brazed on cable guides are different from the cable grooves that I knew from my other Presto

The BB was campagnolo and the wheels Shimano with Araya rims
I removed the blue paint from the headset topnut and spacer and it actually is a nice looking headset from a type I really don't know: "FT Bologna" :wtf: and I think I will keep it.

Very nice score. Will make a great project. I have a Presto in the same colour (the gold). A 1979 frame in my case.

Problem is the same as with my own restored '72 Presto. getting a great new paintjob is possible, just go to Leen. The right decals: possible. But the chromed fork ... mine was rattle can sprayed, and for a good reason: a lot of pitted rust on the fork legs. I just didn't dare to rechrome that, for risk of weakening the fork legs. Any opinions about that?
