Scott, great pics out by your dad's place. Wish I'd have been feeling a bit fitter - I would've enjoyed keeping you company, especially on that smooooooth blacktop!

Well, I rode my commute again today as I usually do. But it was an inadvertent adventure and my own fault. I rode the Gazelle, having restrung the damaged spokes from last week. The bike did great but I had a flat at about the midpoint of the return. A one inch long shard of metal had penetrated the tire almost completely. No problem, I sez to myself, except that I realized it didn't have the frame pump. A few days ago I'd moved the pump to the Motobecane since I couldn't ride the Gazelle, but then I rode the Peugeot instead because of the threat of rain (which did materialize). When I grabbed the Gazelle this morning I didn't think about the pump. How foolish of me.
So I was walking home when another cyclist came the other direction, a fellow commuter I've been waving to twice a day for several weeks now. He stopped and offered me his pump, a mini thingy with a Schrader head and which doesn't put out much air. It turns out he'd never seen Presta valves before. He did have a Presta adapter but didn't know how to use it. So I showed him how it worked and we talked while I swapped tubes. He also commented on how quickly I had removed the wheel. Apparently he'd never seen a road bike with QR skewers.
We managed to get only about 50psi into the 23mm Veloflex Master tire, but at least it supported my weight. I thanked him, we wished each other a safe trip and took off. Of course by now the sun was getting low. I had been running with a L&M Urban 650 but I'd turned it off when I stopped. Dang, it wouldn't turn back on. A week ago after a spell of totally saturated wet air it's charging or metering circuit had apparently taken on some moisture and misbehaved a little but had recovered. Now after cooling in the chill of the evening some condensation may have developed inside again.
So now I had two issues, riding home gently lest I snake-bite the rear and riding home quickly enough to get home before dark. I thought about stopping at Ride Studio in Lexington or detouring through Arlington to either of two bike shops. But both options would make me later. So I continued on.
Long story, short conclusion. The rest of the ride was uneventful, though I had to removed my sunglasses to see. Now the Gazelle is ready to go again, carrying its frame pump like it usually does.

Was all but done with my normal 21 mile lunch ride (had 3/4 mile left). As I turned onto our road my Vitus jumped sideways and I was hit with pain in my left leg. Looked back to see a pit bull getting ready to come at me a second time. I yelled and it ran back to its yard (this is a rural area). I looked down and saw a lot of blood and the pain was getting more intense. After getting off the bike I realized I could see the tendon on the front of my leg. He also got the back of my calf. This ain't good, I thought. Our mail lady saw me limping and turned around to come help. I thought I might be going into shock , definitely wasn't feeling good, and sat down. After 10 minutes I felt a little better and was able to ride back to my car, change and wait for my wife to take me back to the hospital. The doctor's office sent us there since there was torn flesh.
The hospital is required to report all dog bites to the police. A deputy showed up and took a report. The dog will be classified as a dangerous dog. I guess two sherriff's cars were at the owners house. I'll get the police report and send it to my health carrier. What got me is the owner admitted to me her dog doesn't like cyclist. The what he** was it doing out in the unfenced yard.
Unfortunately the hospital says they don't do stitches on the deep bites anymore due to risk of infection. That means a lot longer healing and more time off the bike.

Nice day in Seattle
Phil's Big Red Sled went for a ride to see the salmon monitoring location on the Cedar River in Renton.

Ouch! @scozim, that sounds downright terrifying! People who can't cotrol their vicious animals deserve a whole lot more than a friendly visit from Sherriff Sam. I hope she learns her lesson, but even if she does; it's a little too late for you. And to think, I was worrying about measly old cougars when I was riding out that way with you. I saw some scary beasts yesterday on my ride, but of the non-biting variety - trolls standing guard over Trollhaven Farm in Gardiner, WA. I only shot a couple, but there were more than a dozen scattered about the place, keeping an eye on things:
And Trollhaven Castle (note the 5-year-old Fairy Princess in blue sprinting across the lawn)
Even the tiny local fire department has a somewhat showy mien:
I'm pretty sure that is the first time I've ever taken a photo of a bike in front of a white garage door. Did I do it right?

Some nice photos, and sorry to hear about the dog bite scozim (been there, no fun).
A nice 50 miler once it warmed up today. Up to Stillwater then along local lakes.
40 miles in, I rode past this cyclocross race. Stopped to snap a couple pics.

Great pics Lascaux! Scozim, hope you are feeling better.
It was very windy today coupled with the first real cold weather to hit the northeast, I decided to hit the trails with some old friends.
Loving the new Jones Bars

Yes it was windy and cool today, very October. We took the tandem out for 51 2/3 miles. Fall foliage is late in this part of New England but quite nice in places.
Of course we had to stop and pick up some veggies, which meant carrying them 20 miles home.
Stop for lunch, sweetie snaps pics.
The spiders have returned.

It must be one of those days. I had a few miles left on my 28 mile ride today and had my first crash. It was my fault but I was going too fast on a tight S curve. I still have a bit of a headache and have some bruises and road rash but I was able to get home after walking it off. Helmet has road rash too.

Scozim, best wishes to a quick recovery. Have you thought about contacting your lawyer? The dog owner should be held accountable for her actions or non-action.
Following the Dr’s orders I was to not engage in strenuous activity so I took my MTB
out for a very un-athletic ride today.
Flat rail trails in the upper valley
Then a Nutella Crepe at the cafe when I got back into town
Net gain in calories for the day.
Hope my Dr is happy..

Completed my first Brevet today. Did the PA Randonneurs 200k. I finished in just about 12hrs. It was a good bit colder and more windy than I expected, so there are not many pictures. The phone would not take pictures because I had my gloves on.
Here is the ride profile:
https://parando.org/PA200_k_map.pdf
Climb Elevation: 11,805ft
This was the only good picture I got:

EDIT: Found a couple more pictures on the phone. Seems when I put it back in my jersey pocket, the camera app took 164 blank photos!
At the start:

Obligatory rando selfie:

Blurry, just finished, bike shot:

Thanks all! Vonruden & Sir-name, if you guys would like to do one on the spring (150/200k) there are some that are not as focused on the hills. Let me know. You are welcome to use my place as a staging are.
That offer goes to you too Jim but you are a lot father north. You could however, bring the tandem. Think of all of the Amish pies and produce you could pick up along the way!

Snow!!!!!
SNOW!!!
So here I am, minding my own business, rolling up to a red light somewhere on the outskirts of Northborough, Massachusetts, and it's SNOWING! Other than the occasional bit of snow over the next two hours I didn't see, or go through, anything special.

F1, thanks for the offer. Much to ponder, but as much as I'd like to get down that way to ride it is unlikely to happen.
VR, I complimented you brace of pics on the Everyday Pics thread but the are good enough to receive compliments again! Spectacular (as usual).
Ed., snow?? We didn't ride today, took a long walk through Estabrook Woods. Didn't see any snow but it was quite chilly with increasing clouds. Snow? Don't say that. I'm hoping to ride to work tomorrow!
