I did a short hill-climbing ride with Lovely_Bicycle blogger and Bike Forums member Velouria the other day. She took these pics after we reached a peak in nearby Arlington:

That shot is awesome on so many levels.

De-icer was put on the main roads today so I decided to take the 93 Scott mtb out since our snowfall has been minimal for the past month and the roads up in the hills are frozen. One of the best rides I've had in a very long time - just nature and me. Absolutely nobody else around.

Bring a mtb next time (or use my Klein) and I'll take you up there!

It's almost a fortnight old at this point, but now that the thread's been bumped:

It was about 35F here in balmy Madison with clear roads so I headed out to ride a few miles of our delightfully rolling hills. Kept me happy on an otherwise dreary day.

cold xmas eve ride

High of 32 degrees in RI today. Rode 52 miles. One of my waterbottles became slushy. I could not resist taking a pic of this sign.

I saw the largest group of turkeys in my life today. Well over 50 in Foster. I tried to roll up on them with phone ready, but they were too wary for a good shot. Then they all flew away. I have never seen turkeys fly that high and fast before. This was the best I could do.

Just put the kiddie to bed. Merry Christmas to all...

Deal! Especially the part regarding using the Klein, since I don't own an MB :)

Lake of the Isles, Minneapolis, MN. Nice and easy 26 miles on my ss. Not vintage, but sort of old timey. My Panasonic is warm and snug for the winter. Merry Christmas!

The past week I have been cleaning up an old Viscount Sebring with my dad for his Christmas present. It was covered with layers of dust from sitting for about 20 years. It mainly needed lots of cleaning, but tires, tubes, cables, and housing naturally needed replacing. It needed a new freewheel as the clutch in the old one wouldn't engage fully, but that is no biggie. It rained most of the day, but right before sunset we were able to get it out for a couple of miles around the neighborhood. It is not a top end bike, but it rides very nicely; it is very smooth. We are both very happy with how this bike turned out for ~$100 invested. Tomorrow is supposed to be nice so we will take it up to the rail-trail for a 15 mile ride.

My friend led a ride around Belfair, WA. I knew it was long but didn't realize how much climb was involve. Friend's Garmin shown 83 miles with total 5300ft of elevation gain at the end. Toward the end I felt miserable, I was tired, hungry and started to rain. The good thing was, I not only burned off Christmas dinner but probably Thanksgiving dinner too.

Can hardly see it due to the the snow covered peaks, but that's Olympic mountains in the background.

75 km, to Baca and back. Sorry, no pics again. Had lunch with friends, to celebrate Yet Another Glorious Day. On the way back, riding across the city, I was so close behind a major collision that I rode through the debris trail while it was still moving, and got only one flat. One of the officers on duty was very impressed that I had everything I needed to get myself back on the road. It wasn't until much later that I thought about just how close it was. And I have a stiff neck.

Havent been there yet going to have to try it out, hows the trip like?

I can only dream about the flat lands you have in Austin, the older I get the more I hate hills.

gomango 12-31-11 03:33 PM

Out and back from St. Paul to Excelsior for lunch.

42 miles and some change.

I've never ridden so late into a Minnesota riding season on a racing bicycle.

We rolled right by here today on both legs of our ride.

A little dreary today!

Pretty most days though.

I recall some helacious hills last February in Austin!

We did parts of the Medina Loop near my parents' house that darn near killed me.

I went out this afternoon for my 1st ride since my surgery. I've been off the bikes for 6 weeks. That and the holiday meals haven't help my waistline or weight (gained 7 lbs).
It was a gorgeous day of 76*F, I took along my older stepson who was home from school. He was a little anxious to try my 18 mile loop of the neighborhood. But so was I. It went by smoothly, though, with no aches or pains.
Here are just a few shots while I waited outside with the bikes while detouring for milk for The Wife.
It was a beautiful day. Happy New Years!

Something looks so familiar here but I just can't place it....

AZORCH 01-01-12 09:15 AM

Last day of the year started out cold and windy, and the winds just got stronger as the day progressed... but, we moved from 30's into the mid-60's and by afternoon I had peeled out of all my cold layers (What? Shorts on December 31? In Missouri? WTF! That's just crazy talk!)

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7142/6...70dfebce_z.jpg

We rode through some of the outskirts of the metro area, north of Kansas City, and then headed for the hills (literally), winding through the bluffs along the Missouri River and then into rural farmland hills before reaching a nice flat ten or twelve mile section of river bottom highway.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7030/6...550512b4_z.jpg

Normally that stretch is a great ride, but the crosswinds were fierce and we were happy to get back into the hills again, where there seemed to be some respite, the incline side of the hill acting as a sort of wind break. Not a bad way to end the year!

I got out for a couple few hours this afternoon in balmy 50º temps. I can not ever remember a New Years Day like this. I took my '93 Dean Colonel out for a jaunt, mostly lazy riding but still fun. I snapped this at a very low log crossing. I made it with my fingers just skimming the bottom of the tree and my head tucked under the handlebar; really low!

Two C&V riders on a C&V tandem, 39.5 miles. At a brook crossing in Carlisle, MA:

Not sure how far I rode. Kind of a dreary day so I took the tank so I could do some gravel roads and take a different route. Lots of cows and me.
