I rode 51 miles Saturday from Brooklyn to Croton Dam via the Old Croton Aqueduct trail. Thirty of the miles were on dirt, some double track and some rooty rocky single track... which was a blast (but slow) on my Tempo. Only 1 flat.

I met up with a friend after work on Tuesday for a ride up to the Sunrise visitors center at Mt. Rainier National Park. We started our ride just outside the Park entrance. Lots of climbing, light car traffice so we were able to ride side by side alot and talk. I hadn't seen my friend for a while so it was a great way to catch up.

No ride yesterday just a nice long walk of about 4 miles. My bum and legs needed a break. My Doctor called yesterday and gave me some test results and said I was cleared to return to work, YIPPIE! Now lets see what work and their crack team of medical quacks have to say. OH No ride today just a completely off day while I run to the salon, doctors office, work, DMV, VA courthouse, grocery and maybe a manicure! HA some off day LOL

Our friend is fundraising for The Ride to Conquer Cancer and our little shop is lending pre-ride mechanical support and some coaching... we went out on my old short loop last night which is a 26km round trip that will challenge a decent rider and our friend had never ridden any hills like this or seen the river valley.



A new 13-26 block made the climbs a wee bit easier...

I've got to say, pictures lately have been outstanding. Makes my meager shot from today seem unworthy, but I'll put it up anyway. The local one room schoolhouse in Voluntown, CT. from todays 25 mile cruise on the Super Sport.

Well here's a crappy picture to make you feel better. Over the Mississippi on the T630. Today's ride was about 20 miles at a more leisurely pace. Yesterday I lit it up on the Anderson for 26.5 miles at 21mph including a few short but stiff climbs totaling over 1100 feet per the GPS.

I took a much longer ride today. I am enjoying all the riding time I have had lately but I guess it is time to get out and look for a job. I got a latish start but since I don't have anywhere to be who cares. I live in a funny area and I can really go one way to get out of town in about 6 miles so I almost always leave my house going west. I started my usual route and took a turn out towards a little town called Boiling Springs. Any avid Fly Fishing people may know the Yellow Breaches creek?? it runs through there. Any I went near there but then turned towards Carlisle, there is no good way to get out of Boiling Springs but the way I come in. Lots of hills but made it down to Carlisle stopped at Sheetz for ice and cup of strawberries then back home.

30.14 (cheated by rolling past my house for the last .5) avg 12.27 and avg bpm of 137. Not bad after an almost two year lay off and a mild TIA eh?

Oh I almost forgot, while I was rolling the last few miles I heard some guy call out from his Cherokee "hey nice Bianchi!"

Nice pics, everybody. Cycling in middle-America, and Canada too. There is a Mechanicsville in Virginia, you know, more part of the greater Richmond area now. MC, that's a neat shot with the building and archway lit up in the background.

My only ride yesterday was the usual commute. Light traffic, nice weather. I did some frame and drivetrain cleanup on the Bianchi when I got home. 1000 miles of Waltham to Woburn has been laying down its mark.

Later I managed to mount tires on the clincher wheels for the Masi so I can commute on it again. I decided the reason it was flatting so much was the rear tire had become just a layer of thin rubberized fabric over the tube. So I'm trying a set of Veloflex Masters, 23mm. They claim to have a Kevlar belt. Mounting them took some time and care but I managed to mount both without any pinch flat! They're still holding air this morning. We'll see how they work out on the road.

Nice looking conversion. At first I thought it was a touring or hybrid frame with a 700 rear and 26" front to accommodate the extra axle to crown length of the suspension fork It does give me an idea though...

Conversion came out pretty good, still looking for a open stem with a little less reach though to make it juuuuuuust right. The the suspension fork it leaving he bike once I get my rigid fork cut to size......... Then its fender time

I think I bit off a little more than I could chew or rather ride this morning. Hot on the heels of yesterdays great 30 mile ride I decided to try and go a bit further. I started on the same route as yesterday, if you use Garmin Connect you can see my route there, but I actually rode into Carlisle rather than just hit the outskirts. I stopped at a bike shop for some extra tube (just need some no flats) and stopped for some ice at a Sheetz. I started back and realized at yesterdays turn around I was at almost 22 miles, OY! Well with 10 or so miles to go I started off. Thankfully the road home is a little flatter than the way out. I bonked a little at the 26/27 point but rallied a bit at the 29. By the 31 I had had enough and just sat up and cruised in. I will probably walk tomorrow and maybe take the Hetchins on a little lunch cruise then again I may just take the day off!

I took the Proto out and since I haven't been on a 42t just yet I slipped a 39 on here last night. I was thinking of a 39/42 but I don't want to move the derailleur down. OH I am trying to make myself spin a bit more rather than push a bigger gear.

Now this is a funny name "War College"

Left the house thinking I was going to hit lots of hills, but quickly realized there was absolutely no wind. That opened up the possibility of a long out and back route, so I rode up to Taylor's Falls, MN and then down the Wisconsin side to Osceola. It was one of those days where at any moment you expected big fat rain drops to come down at any moment. About half way back, that's just what happened. I got 86 miles in, with about 20 in the wet. I need to clean up the bike anyway, so not so bad. Had a flat but was fortunate to not be rained on during the fix.

They ride nice, but the kevlar belt isn't terribly effective in my experience. I'd been spoiled from a reliability perspective with gatorskins, but they don't roll nearly as well as the masters. I flatted my rear for the first time today and was surprised at the number of cuts through the belt that have occurred in only about 800 miles. I've also flatted the front once in about the same distance. Then again, I'd been using latex tubes with them so that's maybe not helping matters much. On the bright side, they do get much easier to install after doing it a few times Hope you have good luck with them in terms of flats, you will probably love them otherwise.

I did a 58 mile round trip ride to Piermont, NY. The climbing involved was a bit much on the ol' 2-speed (42T x 16/18 FW) and I am tired!
