I saw that, and was VERY tempted. That's the earliest Tempo I've personally seen.,,,,BD
I'd put Cyclone M-II on it. Just me though.

Thanks for not giving in to temptation! I almost pulled the trigger on it when he had it listed before but held off. When he relisted at the lower price I took a gamble and just bid the opening amount figuring I'd get blown out of the saddle. I definitely did NOT need another project but it was calling my name. Date code on the head badge indicates it was built July 10th of 1984. I like the idea of the Cyclone hardware but I already had the RSX group and it needed a home. It's also my dress rehearsal for an '83 Super Sport frame I'm going to restore and outfit with Ultegra components. I'd love to find one of these in mint original condition but my bike buying is done for awhile. No, really....... I mean it.

My helper at work who does some odd jobs on the side got some work from a realtor patching up and cleaning out a rental property. He told there was a a bike in the shed and asked me if I'd like him to bring it in to work. He only knew it was a Raleigh. This is what he showed up with. I'm going to keep it and use it for fun rides and such. I'd like to know about when it was made.

Wasn't so much in to classic steel when I found it, and it was just another thing to take to France, so it went for a very small amount on Ebay. Actually had a look for the buyers email the other night in case he wanted to sell it back to me...

I drove an hour each way to pick up a 1973 Schwinn Super Sport with a 23" frame(which is more or less my size). It needs a bit of work as it came with a dead rear derailleur and came without a chain. It's also missing the rear brake line. In the interest of keeping costs down, I am going with a Shimano TX35 RD. It does have the original Atom pedals and the rear shelf. The front wheel looks to be salvageable but the rear wheel may not be.

Just bought this early '90s O'Brien at a garage sale. Local small-time framebuilder; so small, in fact, that there is zero info online. Unfortunately, it's much too small for me.
Edit: Just got a reply from the framebuilder--it's Columbus SL with Cinelli lugs. Why can't it be a 56??

I rescued this Canondale from the back of a scrapper pickup truck. I was parked for lunch about 4 blocks away from the scrap yard he was headed to. Most of the time the bikes they have are department store mountain bikes but when I looked down I saw "Cannondale". I was lucky he had the red light. I honked for him to pull over and asked how much for the bike. He asked more than the scrap value but it was well worth it to me I think. I assumed the wheels where 700c but I was wrong. The tiny bike has 650 x 23 tires. Its missing the seat post, pedals, chain and rear derailleur. I have a spare 105 in my parts bin and I should be able to come up with a seat and post pretty easy. Wheels spin smooth, no hops but need to be trued a bit. I hope the grip shifters work. She is a 1993 R700 TT Tri bike, very small. I could not let her get melted. Should be a fun bike to fix up.

Maybe you should check with the people at the scrap yard, Steve. Did you see this bike with Campy components that a new member bought for $5 at a scrap yard? The bike has an M&M Cyclery sticker on it so the yard is probably somewhere in Chicagoland.

I think I should just hang out at the yard. I picked up a 1973 Raleigh Professional Track Frame and Fork with a Campy headset for $10 a few months back. I keep my eyes open when the scrap trucks go by me.

My Schwinn collection has been growing lately. I recently decided that like any good Schwinn collector I should have at least one Varsity in the bunch and that I should snag the next one that comes along cheaply. So here it is as found, I purchased this yesterday for $25 off of Craigslist but let's pretend I saved it from the dump. It should clean up pretty nicely:
Now if only I could find a nice old Paramount for $25 to represent the other extreme in the Schwinn line up.

I had a productive weekend picking up bikes. I doubt that any of the early 90s bikes I bought were headed for the dump but all three were collecting dust. I dropped a total of $120 for a '91 Bridgestone RB-T, a '94 Bianchi Osprey and a '94 Trek 850. I will be busy for a couple weeks getting them all cleaned up, lubed and tuned. I had a week or two with nothing to work on and was going through withdrawal so I am now happy. I will post pictures once they have been rehabbed.
Still learning
Sunday bargains
First purchases for me in nearly two months. A Swedish equivalent to a PX10, Reynolds 531, less than $100. Tubular with Nuovo Tipo hubs, Mafac Racer, and Stronglight 93.
Cannondale ST400(?) Paint is scuffed here and there, but I'm not complaining, for less than a Ulysses Grant portrait.

Great bike, I know you posted it a couple weeks ago. How's the progress coming on it?

Right now, it's waiting for a 3-piece crank conversion along with a 80s vintage Sakae fluted aluminum seatpost.
WV is not flat..
I saw this sitting in a yard on the way to work today. I couldn't stop this morning, but it was still there this evening. Luckily none of you guys drive my commute. As far as I can tell it is a 1983 (serial# L662324) Univega Specialissima. Not in great shape with a bunch of scratches and I think a few things were changed, but I couldn't pass it up for $30.

I have finished up the RB-T and am just about done with the Trek. I haven't started on the Bianchi yet. Here are pictures of the RB-T and the Trek 850.

Finally got a Bridgestone!
Picked this up last night from a free ad on CL. Surprised it lasted almost a week on CL, but maybe location and the fact it's not super high end had something to do with it. The bike is a Bridgestone MB4 Trailblazer that looks to be from the late 80's. Frame is made from Tange Cro Mo, Triple Butted I think, can't remember now. Came with a nice set of Mountain LX cranks with Biopace rings (BB is shot), front and rear derailleurs, Shimano LX 7 speed SIS shifters, and what I think is the stock front wheel with a decent street tire on it. I was going to dig through my boxes of parts and build it up stock, but I need a bottom bracket first. Any ideas for a different build for this bike?

^Wow! Can't believe that thing lasted a week for free. Nice save.

Snagged the other day for $25. Frame is nothing too special--I mainly got it for the components so I can upgrade my touring bike. I think it was the top of the line REI mountain bike in 1990. Full Deore DX groupset (the full Deore XT bike remains elusive to me) and Ritchey Force 2.0 tires.

You could lose a pound just removing that huge dork disc.
