nishiki marina 10 speed

i have just purchased a nishiki marina 10 speed that is marked G0181. the frame is marked "made in taiwan R.O.C." and has a sticker on the seat tube that reads FEMCO. the front and rear deraillers are suntour 7. i am not seeing any reference to this particular bike anywhere i look. is it that rare or are there other possibilites?

post pictures. There are alot of bikes out there, not all of them have a following on the internet. Its probably an entry level road bike, good but nothing special. Nishiki, like alot of other makers, made alot of bicycles in all different categories.

It's a 1981 Nishiki made by Giant. The frame was made in January of 1981. I'm not familiar with that model, but typically Giant made Nishiki's entry level models. Especially in 1981. Nishiki is a good brand so just because it's entry level, doesn't mean it isn't a worthy bicycle. Suntour 7 is also entry level, typically a good entry level bike. Your actual serial number is probably located under the bottom bracket. I'd REALLY like to see pics of that bike.

Works for me. We may need to have a C&V Raleigh ride this year. There are about four or five in our general area that are C&V types. Maybe we can get Bill from the western part of the state too.

I also have a Nishiki Marina, purple w/yellow detail (stripped lugs). Nice ride. I remember seeing a Nishiki Marina web group a few years ago. But I can't seem to find it now. Anyone know what happened to it?

I have an 82 Marina 12 (courtesy of Kpug505). The bike is now done and it's a nice ride weighing in around 25 lbs. It's customized with a variety of parts. Component list is on this thread:

Straight gauge, chrome moly, nicely made, cool gold/red head badge. 1981 is what I was told when I found a huge one a few years ago and was asking around. It's not top of the line, but is respectable.

I have been tracking Nishiki serial numbers for several years and agree with everything stated by Roccobike. I only have a couple of comments to add. The Marina appears to have produced for a relatively short timeframe in the very early 1980s, so it is fairly rare, though not valuable. All the FEMCO tubesets I've seen have been hi-tensile sets, restreicted to entry level models like the Sport and Marina.

Once you take pictures, I'd appreciate it if you would kindly add your bicycle to the Nishiki Serial Number Database thread in this forum.

found a good page that showed me this
Giant manufactured frames (1980-1986*): With a date code generally stamped on the dropout on the drive side of the bike, these frames used a two part serial number in a G MM YY format, where:
  • G = Giant.
  • MM = month (01 = Jan, 02 = Feb, etc.).
  • YY = year (80 = 1980, 81 = 1981, etc.).
Example: G0384 is a Giant-manufactured frame from March 1984.

And, just because nobody ever posted a picture of one in the thread, here is a pic of a Marina 12 that passed thru my hands last Autumn. Serial number G0582.

I'll play along - I love mine for just cruising along and I use it as my winter bike on the indoor trainer.
