Schwinn Typhoon

I just picked up a Schwinn Typhoon in very good condition, it has the usual coaster brake but it operates like a fixed gear. I'm new to this model and I don't know if this is correct or not. I don't think it is but I want to make sure before I get into the hub. Any info would be apreciated, thanks.

If you mean you can't coast then you need to fix something in the hub. Roger

The internals are probably siezed up. They aren't too hard to rebuild though. Just take it apart, clean it and put it back together with some grease.

The grease has probably congealed. Oherhauling one of these is really pretty simple. If your library still has an old Glenn's Manual, that would help. The Schwinn shop repair books used the same photographs, I believe...

What hub do you have? I might have the rebuild steps with pictures....I could snap some pics and post them if need be.

The Typhoon I picked up at a garage sale is a 2-speed kickback. If that's what you have, it's a bit more complicated than a one-speed

I found an online shop manual somewhere.
