Peugeot BB- French, BSA, or Swiss?
I have a 1980 UO-10 that I'm converting into a single-speed wet weather ride. The original Stronglight 104 CS is nice but ultimately I'd like to use the snazzier 49 or 93 and a shorter spindle than the 121 on there to better my chainline and minimize the ham-fisted redish I"ll be embarking on.
I read that Peugeot BBs started going BSA and Swiss threading starting in 1980 - how can I tell what I've got here on mine? Only clue I can offer is there's an 'H' stamped on the outside face of the adjustable cup. I've had a hell of a time adjusting it proper too, never finding the exact right torque.
If it's a BSA threaded BB, should I just save myself the trouble of finding French stuff and go all Japanese with the BB and crankset?
If it's a French threaded BB, am I looking at a world of hurt here with any attempts to replace and adjust?

Okay, I just found a good site and now I know the BB checks out as French. So I guess my main question is: are these french threaded parts hard enough to procure that I should just make do with what I have? Maybe it's easier to get picky when it's Shimano and Suntour and whatnot...

1980 should be French but there's also a chance it could be Swiss.
Swiss cups can be identified (not always) by looking for 1 of 2 features:
1. A thin line engraved around the circumference of the cup.
2. gold coloring/tinting

I'd go with this and the 114mm Stronglight spindle that's also on eBay if I was building another SS Peugeot. It's pricey, but 93's aren't cheap.

You could also modify a double. That's a 115mm spindle with no offset.

My 1980 PKN-10 was Swiss-threaded, with a gold-colored fixed cup.

Oh thaaaat offset. I haven't done much work with BBs outside of cleaning and repacking. They don't seem to list offset measures in many descriptions of spindles though do they?
I checked the fixed cup for a gold tinge, but no not really. How gold are we talking here?

If French or Swiss Phil Wood lists BB cups for both. These work with all the Phil Wood bottom brackets and he has a wide range of spindle lengths, stmmetrical and offset available.
https://www.philwood.com/BB-Tools.htm
About the best price I have found for the Phil Wood bottom brackets and cups is lickbike.com.
If a Phil Wood BB and cups cannot solve your problem then good luck!

It's just not necessary to spend more on a bottom bracket than the bicycle is worth. I wouldn't spend that much on a BB for my custom painted PX10. The OP is converting a UO10 to a single speed.
