I think that tire one is awesome as well. Sadly, it's a perfect example of the ridiculousness of the fixie/hipster trend. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he did/does sell it.
And I flagged it for "best of" BBM.

Where do people get the idea that they're adding value to a bicycle by doing this?

Or are they? Maybe I need to invest in a grinder.

I'd give him $50 (including shipping) for the frame if it still had the derailleur hanger and shifter braze-ons, only because I kind of like the paint job.

I have to shake my head and chuckle every time I see a CL ad that proclaims that a bicycle is in "excellent condition," or "mint." or "as new" only to find out in the very next line that it is not...and they still want top dollar.

1986 Specialized Allez 56cm - $340 (sunset / parkside)

"This bike is in excellent mechanical and cosmetic condition, and is super comfortable to ride. The only flaw is a hairline crack I discovered in the BB lug (detailed in pictures below) while cleaning the bike, this may just be a crack in the old paint. You would have to sand off the paint to be sure, and I'm just not ready to do that. "

At least he gets points for honesty.

Bikes: a heavy old steel Frankenbike Gitane, a cruiser (not something I'd buy for myself, but it was a gift, what can you do?), a Greg Lemond, a Specialized Stumpjumper(old, steel, fully rigid), and a Specialized Safire

That's not a "hairilne crack" -- that's a frame failure. It could be fixed, but would cost more than the frame is worth.

Why, from "Cow Hollow", of course. Didn't you read the ad?

Besides, it has "700-cc hi-performance tires". What more could you want for $200?

"Brake guides, derailleur hangers and rear brake hole are all shaved and filled." (but i left the fender eyelets on the fork.) Also, why are they using mountain bars instead of track bars on fixie conversions now?

Because they don't want to reach down. It looks cooler to have a high seat, but they're not flexible enough for 8 inches of saddle to bar drop like on a real track bike.
It's fashion, all you can do is twitch.

im not entirely innocent:

but in my defense this bike was used for hitting the pub or going to get beer and i never took a grinder/dremel to it.
it is currently braked with drops and freewheel ss.

Good question. The hipsters are all hot over NJS equipment but they can't handle drop handlebars.

Go figure.

Yeah, but at least you didn't castrate the frame.

Here's something you don't see every day, a 12 speed pursuit bike.

Other than the incorrect "pursuit" part (this is a time trial "funny" bike) at $75, this is a steal in so many ways.

Ahhhh, so that explains it. I knew it wasn't just some 12 speed with a small set of forks thrown on it, because the head tube clearly has a rake to it, but I didn't know what it was. It didn't really occur to me that it was a TT bike. I guess I usually think of a disc wheel being on TT bikes of that age.

I've made it clear that I love mine, but this guy is nuts if he thinks he will get $650 for a Special Road Racer.

"I remember these bikes being first class and outta reach for the average buyer back then."

The whole point of this bike was to be in reach for the average buyer back then. I love revisionist history.

Yes, that is pretty ingenious if he can get his asking price. It's amazing what some people can come up with!
