I can't wait til someone hacks the codes on that. Then I'll have a new hobby.....wifi hacking someone's bike derailleurs Imagine the surprise when I start shifting for them

imagine the hilarious and nut crunching implications it could have on a big hill climb

Lame-o's who:

Have "good old days" syndrome without even having been there (or would know they weren't so good).

Think every lugged steel frame is a piece of "art". Actually most are a piece of crap. (Not that's there's anything wrong riding a piece of crap.)

Can only associate fixed gears with the current hipster fad. Fixed gears are THE roots of racing bicycles, and offer some of the best training and most fun you can have on a bike. If you do not get that you are lame.

Have given up on racing or riding hard so they can totally write off the usefullness of carbon fibre and modern components for everybody.

Brakes aren't electronic. And it's their dumb*** fault if they lose power in a race. They don't take long to charge.

On rare occasions one of the serious cyclist will poke fun at us Freds. Yes, I wear worn out running shoes so th local 'cyclists' won't laugh when they zoom past.

Neither can they.

They just pay more for the PT so they can see how badly they fail.

Drawbacks to C&V?

+1 there are now so many new posts, I'm staying up past bedtime to read them
+1 I now want so many C&V bikes that I'd never heard of just a year ago
+1 thanks to the enablers here who make wrenching look easy, I now have 30+ "vintage" bikes crammed into the garage and alley needing work
+1 I now feel guilty if I don't ride my vintage bike to work every day possible

The lamest thing about C&V is that so many good and new friends are so faraway that riding together would be a logistical whipping.

Hey, That's me!

1980's to the mid '90's was the "Golden Age" IMO
Art or not, lugs are nicer to look at.
Ride a Boneshaker if you want to impress someone about "back to the roots" crap.

There are plenty of people in the FG forum who do the same thing. The worst is when someone posts a picture of a cheap garage sale find with comments about how he is going to strip it down, cut off the braze-ons, get it powdercoated bright green and will but a pair of matching deep vs and risers on it.

The screams can be heard for miles.

The downside to joining the C&V forum is you start learning how to spend without hesitation or guilt to feed a component or bike hunting addiction. Little here, little there, before you know it you spent way over anything you've expected with (in my case) return to the sport. Sure I started this year thinking, yeah, I'll just get new tires and tubes for the ole PSV and get her on the road again, but then it all escalates to new tools, clothing, shoes, helmet, another bike, componenets to feed a restoration of that bike.....Stronglight!...Stronglight!....Spidel!......Spidel!.....Mavic!...Mavic!...MAVIC!.....MAAAVI IIIC!!!!...I'm out of controlll....Argggghhhhh!!!!! Dont tase me Bro!!!

I just thought of a couple.....

When people see you in biking shorts and politely turn away....

or

When I hear:
"Bicycling?"
"You?"
"Really?"
"You're kidding, right?"

and then...

"uh, hey, just kidding, put that tire iron down, man..."
