Big Wood Cycles???

I stumbled across this site by accident the other day and found the content somewhat interesting. Thought some of you mind be like minded.

I am not sure why the text is in an Asian language while the name of the company is Cycles Grand Bois, which means Cycles Big Wood. Confusing to me but the bicycles are pretty nice. Have a look if you wish...

Very cool site Randy - I can't decode how much they cost or what the frames are made of, but they sure look the business. Even the "entry" model looks sweet.

Name probably comes from a desire to give the bikes a "euro" feel.... (or someone got really excited about them!)

That's the name of a shop in Japan that happens to be large enough to have products manufactured with their name on them.
<correction> That's the House name of products made for the shop - not the name of the shop.

I like their tires.

The Japanese love French style bicycles, particulalrly randonneurs, so why not give the house brand a French name? I see they also put Rene Herse at the top of the list of name brands that they carry.

I can read/decipher English, Italian, French, even a little Greek and Russian but the oriental languages written in (insert name of pictograph characters here) are beyond me.

I very much like that Multipurpose bike. That would make an excellent town bike. If only I could read the site...

I agree. Did you notice the top tube shifters?

I'd like to add that after doing some poor translation I think these bikes are custom built(not the frames, just the components) to order using either their in-stock parts or with parts that you provide. They are designed after vintage French bikes. This is why many of them have down/top tube shifters. I found mention of 300,000+ yen as prices, so these are $3,000+ custom made bikes. Also, I think that they restore vintage bikes as well.

Maybe I'm way off because I was just using a web translator, but I believe it to be somewhat accurate.

https://translate.google.com/translat...ml&sl=ja&tl=en

EDIT: I found one bike listed at a little over $16,000, so these are not cheap bikes. My dreams of owning one have been utterly shattered less than an hour after I dreamed them

It's my underdstanding "Grand Bois" bicycles are very high end, Grand Bois tires are very popular with the 650b folks.

Cheers,
Chris

That's also a genuine Singer, if I'm not mistaken.

This reminds me of some work boots I found for sale on a Japanese web site. They were made with genuine "Cat's Eye" rubber soles (which are very C&V in their own right). The price, a mere $600 for a pair of work boots made with American materials and designs.
