the reason i was asking is because I think I tracked one down and am going go look at it this weekend.
and I'm trying to get you guys to persuade me to get it.
Im pretty sure it is a 23" frame though which I'm thinking it might be to big for me. But it seems to good of a deal to turn away.

the photos are not the best, but i think it is in decent shape.
what's even more incredible is that the gentleman has said he has had it since he was ten years old.

I ride a 23", and I'm in Arizona. Would definitely love to see some photos once you've got it.

It's a 1963, and is basically a Raleigh Sports frame with drop bars and a few minor upgrades. The drop bars and B15 saddle are original; only the stem is not. It's a 23" frame; looks bigger on account of the 26 x 1 1 /4 wheels.

Not to sure on the model, He says from the 50's.

I should stop talking about it now.

These caught my eye hanging like bats in a neighbour's garage and I asked for the women's model for my wife. They were cheaper by the pair.

I looked at the photo of the green Lenton and thought "what's that crazy thing on the front brake??" and then realized that it was part of your gate! Love this bike...

Hah! We actually replaced that gate/fence last year with a white plastic one. Since I don't have a white garage door (no garage), it serves as a decent backdrop.

this bike is so hot. oh man

So i went and picked up that Raleigh Lenton Sports today, paint is pretty bad with rusty spots. But it had a brooks b-17 champion special saddle that was in decent shape so*i bought the bike.

the bike has a serial number of 56618 RA as serial number. Dunlop 26x1 1/4 wheels. a Campagnolo rear derailler. and i think a huret friction shifter, it is also a 10 speed.

only thing was it is a hi-ten frame and as always someone decided to get a kick stand, and we all know what that means.

So, where are the pics? :)

James, do you have a Gran Sport derailleur, or a Valentino? I hope it's the former.

Given the similarity in serial numbers, I guess yours is of a similar date to mine (1963). Those 26 x 1 1/4 tires were pretty much obsolete by the time these bikes were made, so I suspect the rims were considerably older stock that they were using up, along with the Lenton name, which was also obsolete by the time these bikes were made. People who are restoring bikes from the 40's really want these rims, so I have been tempted to upgrade mine to a more convenient wheel size and aluminum rims, and pass the rims on to someone who really needs them.

I had a Raleigh Lenton Sports that I stupidly sold a while back. Probably and early 60's model. It had a 4 speed cog in back and a double chainring with the slap stick front derailleur.

The paint job was amazing. Red to silver to white fade paint job. White headtube and white panel on the seat tube. White plastic fenders. It was a real looker.

I found it at an Amvets resale store. It looked as if it had never been ridden.

I sold it to Mark Matte at CycleSmithy in Chicago. Hope he kept it.

yeah i dont think the bike i bought looks anywhere as good as your guy's. I didnt pay full price and think its going to become my beater bike for riding around the neighborhood. as i really dont trust riding one of my decent bikes. i also wanted the brooks seat i used my brooks proofide last night on the saddle and it made it pretty decent. it was a bit dry but soaking the top and bottom it is now ready to ride.

it did have the valentino derailler and huret friction shifter is missing the left side and the front derailler is missing. but i was able to adjust the seat and pull the stem with no problem.

so all in all not a complete loss. at least i got a decent seat and beater bike out of it.

I think you did pretty well. Cool looking bike, excellent beater, paint can probably be made to look a lot better. You have quite a few components there that people want for restoring other bikes; the 4-cog freewheel, chrome stem, rims, etc. Not that I'm saying you should part it out; just pointing out some desirable items.

And I really like the "Raleigh" decal with the snowflakes. Kurt should add that to his Raleigh decal database.

Is the crank made by Raleigh or Williams? Probably the former, but if the latter there may be a date code on the back of each arm and the rings.
