Mystery Campagnolo Hubs - alum flanges pressed to steel body - cira early 60's?

Actually there are two sets of mystery hubs, one appears to be the large(r) flange version of the other.

A long while ago, these were added to VeloBase.com:

9-holes, and a 68mm diameter flange. The front hub certainly looks like the body and flange are two parts, the rear is hard to make out.

Now I come across this set of hubs on eBay, which are stated to be 1950's era Gran Sport. Thanks to the line art drawings that are the Campagnolo catalogs of the age, who knows how close they come to the actual hubs of the time so I'm not sure if these are Gran Sport or not, but they do not appear to be the same as the hubs shown in the 1955, 1960, or 1967 catalogs.

Hoping ya'll can help me get a positive ID on both of these hubs so they can be correctly classified and entered into VeloBase. Thanks!

The top picture was submitted to velobase by me, as they were my hubs. They were from 1962 and I referred to them as medium-flange hubs or Tipo hubs. Definately tier-2 behind the Record hub in 1962.

The bottom hubs are the early Gran Sport, top of the line in the 50s, made by FB for Campagnolo. Campagnolo did have a tier-2 hub called the Gran Sport in the late 60s.

Thanks for the confirmation. Figured there was some gaps in the catalogs I have in the 60's, likewise with the 50's.

Well the plot thickens, or at least the fog in my mind does. Seems I also had a set of the Tipo medium flange hubs in my eBay watch list from the same seller as the low flange Gran Sports that I just got to in my list. The seller has called them 'Sportsman" in his auction. Google turns up no references to the "Sportsman" from Campagnolo outside of the rear derailleur. I've made a comment on the Medium Flange hubs on VeloBase of this, but still think Tipo is the best name for the part.

Except Tipo (Nuovo Tipo) is the name for the 70s second tier hub (actually, not a bad hub at all). I don't think the name was used before that.

I wouldn't be surprized if the so called "mid flange" was called Sportsman.

For there to be a "Nuovo Tipo", without there having been first a "Tipo" sounds like a strange naming convention, even for Campagnolo. Then again, perhaps it fit right in with their other lines of the time also largely being "Nuovo X".

There was a discussion on CR about these hubs in the last couple months. I don't recall the outcome but it may be worth searching the archives

I believe Nuovo Tipo meant "New Type". You think one should have been called "Old Type" first?

BTW, I have a pair of those mid flange too, with solid axles.
