Carlton Cycle paint and colors

Hello guys,
I need some Ideas on paint combinations for a Carlton Frame I have. I was going to paint it black with cream head tube and seat tube panels. Also outlining all the Nervex lugs in gold pinstripe. It has Chrome seat and chain stays, and Chrome fork blades. As for Components it will be a surprise....

Any other suggestions?

Mike

This one just turned up at Hilary Stone's site. Cruise images on the web to find others. There a blue and red Jewel that I think is quite nice.

Assuming that it really needs paint, I might go with the classic green and black.

- What color is it now?

Thanks guys,
All those bikes give me inspiration. The light blue and white, the Purple and white, the Black and green. All great Combinations. Oh and yes it needs paint it's way beyond having nice "Patina".

Black with a cream head tube is a nice combo, here's mine (not a Carlton but a Phillips. It came from the same remote island).
Lagoon Blue sometimes came with a sort of candy red. i didn't like it when I first saw it but it's growing on me. my carlton will be red with white trim. I think the picture in the ad shows chrome on the seat tube but it could be lagoon blue. I also saw one once that was a darker blue with a red head tube that really got me going. I wish I'd saved the picture.
Here's the '70 Carlton catalog;

I like contrasting color head tubes that show off the lugwork, but I am kind of biased ...

That pink and green one is cool! They did have some interesting combinations! Here are some Carlton pics I've stolen from listings over the years.

Before we talk about color, what kind of finish are you thinking of, and who's going to do it? If enamel, you can brush paint that yourself with surprisingly good results; metallic has to be sprayed. I especially like "flamboyant" or "candy apple" but that too has to be sprayed. But since you said cream and black, I'm guessing your want enamel.

If that's the case, I definitely agree with cream for the head tube and seat tube panel(s). Not so sure about black; maybe something very dark that looks black most of the time but in bright light turns out to be a dark blue, purple, or red? If you're brush painting enamel, you can have any color custom mixed.
