Mystery frame, french/swiss? Mannesmann crmo

Hello fellas,

This is my first post here and it concerns a frame I just bought cheap ass.
It's rather well built with good detailing, but not a top notch: Mannesmann 25 CrMo 4 tubing. Though, with the proper decals and components it would look and do really good.

All decals except the tubing decal are removed. There is a clear sign of the rectangular head tube sticker (familiar to anybody?) and a serial number along with a frame size number at the bottom bracket.

Also, the right bottom bracket cup is still in place and I have a hard time determining if it's french or swiss. The right cup tool width is slightly smaller than I'm used to: 34-35 mm instead of 36 mm.

All help identifying the frame would be appreciated!

See attached photos below.

Best regards,
Gustav

You're in the right place, but I can't really tell you anything you haven't already figured out yourself. On the cup I don't see any of the grooves that often indicate Swiss threading, but I wouldn't go by absence to tell me much. Can you feel inside the BB shell with your fingernail to determine LH v. RH threading?

what is the brand of the BB? what is the width of the BB shell?
I haven't seen everything (who has?) but the only bike I've see with a Mannesman decal was Belgian (a Diamant), even though they were suppliers to Oria so plenty of Italian frames used the tubing just by a different brandname.
It the frame is Benelux, it's very possible it has a British threaded BB.

Hello, thanks for the replies!

I'll try figure out the threading from the inside in day light, no luck so far. Very few threads can be seen so it might be tough.

There are no markings about the maker of the bb shell. Not really visible at the pictures, there's a very thin welding underneath the bb shell. Not like those lumpy ones I've seen on even high end 70's frames. The width is 68 mm, but according to the seller he tried a brittish bb with no luck. He had no further information about the bike.

I have not yet stumbled upon a single rectangular head badge from the three countries mentioned, but my searches has been limited so far. I'd really like to get hold of some corresponding decals before setting it all up and I'm not very thrilled about putting some stock, fancy, untrue Colnago/Eddy/whevr stickers on it.

The puzzle goes on...

Nöll used Mannesmann. Nice bikes. A couple Nöll mountainbikes in an old German mag:

Your frame doesn't look like a Nöll to me, but I have very limited knowledge on old Nöll road bikes, so I could always be wrong. Good luck with your search.

Latest updates: I've been trying to reach the former owner in order to get in contact with the former former owner. Hope to get some answers, especially about the removed head tube.
