I'm not sure where she got it at but the neck definitely wasn't punctured. It slithered off pretty quickly when I took it back outside in the grass.

It's a road (double ring) crankset used as a single speed with one ring. When you mount one chainring on the inside of the spider, it shows the flats of the spider where the outer ring would typically go. I suspect Neal (nlerner) did this in order to optimize the chain line. Nonetheless, it gives a sleeker look if the ring is mounted in the standard outer ring position, since the flats for the inner ring are somewhat hidden behind he larger ring--though that sometimes requires a shorter BB spindle to get a good chain line.

My new Hampsten and my little city in the background. From today's ride, which ended with a fantastic burger and an IPA at the Publick House in Brookline. Then hit up the sox game tonight...unfortunately they got smoked by Detroit. Beautiful night for a game though.

34 years ago today this happened in Washington State around 8:30am
I lived across the state and heard the rumble of the eruption thinking it was thunder. Looked out the window and it was blue sky and sun. I remember thinking that sound was really stranger. Well about 5 1/2 hours later we could see this huge dark cloud coming our way. However, it was "alive" - the ash plumes were just rolling through the cloud. An amazing and scary sight. Then it got dark at 2pm - darker than any night I have ever experienced. The old mercury light in the pasture was on but it was hazy because of the falling ash. The next morning we awoke to sun and bird chirping and two inches of that fine, gray powder on everything. It ruined a lot of car engines. There are still farm trucks running that have the modified intake system that went above the cab to prevent the ash from getting sucked into the engine from lower.
Face masks and bandanas were a necessity for awhile. My brother and I didn't make money mowing lawns for a good month - instead it was made cleaning up volcanic ash.
This is all I have left of the Mount St. Helens ash I collected as a 14 yo.

The envy is mutual. Those road rides you do get to fit in look to be amazing. FL has scenery nowhere near as nice as that.
