Quick Sturmey Archer AW hub questions

Hello all!

First off, i have to say again what an enormous and invaluable resource this site (and you all) have been over the past weeks and months as I've worked on my first restoration of an old Raleigh. I have a quick question on hub re-assembly that i wasn't able to find an answer to in all the videos and diagrams online. i have the hub almost entirely reassemble, but i can't seem to figure out the order and location of the left hand cone, dust cap and ball ring. are these inserted from the outside (in what order? facing which direction?) or are they dropped down through the hub shell. the fit doesn't really seem to work either way. i took pictures of the disassembly process, but seem to have forgotten to take one of this step. thank you all in advance!

All that stuff has to go on from the outside, i.e. left side of the hub. FIRST I would put in the retainer full of balls, followed by the dust cap. The dust cap has to be pressed in, so I would do that before putting the guts of the hub in from the right, just because it will be easier to put the dust cap in straight if you don't have to work around the axle. After the balls and dust cap are in place on the left side, you put in the guts of the hub from the right. The left hand cone (followed by the appropriate washers, spacers, locknut, etc) goes on last.

If ANYONE wants a set of S-A wheels, I have a pretty decent set from a '65 Hercules. The rims are like new, the rear is S-A AW and will clean up very close to like new, with galvanized spokes. The front has a galvanized hub and spokes,so the only shiny part is the rim. With tires.

For shipping.

The ring of the ball retainer should face outwards and the recess in the dust cap should also face outwards.
