Sekai Prices WTF.

I have no problem spending 200 bucks or more on a sekai 2500 or better in good shape.. but sometimes CL/Ebay really grinds my gears..

https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/bik/2712391056.html
$250 for a 500?!?!?!?!?!

https://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-SEKA...ht_2571wt_1041
Buy it now for $400 for a 1000?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Seka...#ht_2004wt_767
That ones the worst I think.. a comp is the 76 version of the 2500 I picked up a 79 comp in really good shape for 150 I think it was...

The first two links, those bikes are bottom of the line, the 500 literally being the bottom. And the comp price, I could understand that possibly to pick up the 4000 or 5000 series, but the only member I even know on here with a 4000 is 3alarmer.

People are silly, maybe the sellers post up those high prices hoping that someone will offer them half and think they got a sweet deal. Or those bikes are destined to be re-posted forever.

The one that grinds my gears is a guy who keeps posting some Campy tubular wheels for $300, and links to auctions of "similar" Pista hubs as justification.

Don't know why I find it so annoying or care.

$250 for a 500?!?!?!?!?.
$250 is the going rate for any mixte in the SF Bay area, assuming it's been completely overhauled and is ready to ride and cosmetically presentable.

The best one on E-bay is the guy that's been posting a rusted out UO8 for $550.00 for over a year.

I've said it before and I'll say it again;
People do strange things!

That and more power to them, if they think they can get those prices, the good luck!
It only takes one person to really like it, for whatever reason.

I quess the SF Bay area prices are high right know. I can get a fairly decent Mixte off of CL in Denver right now for as little as $100 there several posted right now in the $150-200 range that haven't sold after being posted for a couple of weeks.

Our bike market for the most part is just flat out more expensive than most of the country.

I thought my bike prices were inflated! I think I need to go up to Portland and pick something up. I was perusing their Craigslist and prices were pretty reasonable, not to mention there were lots of road bikes to be seen.

It should be noted Matt, at least in the case of the bikes I listed unless an idiot or a guy with plenty of extra money and those bikes are an exact fit.. they just won't sell. Both those Sekai's have been being listed on and off on ebay for months!!!!!

I passed on similar bike in thrift store yesterday for $50 it wasn't my size. I couldn't flip a Mixte for a profit in Denver right now to save my life.

Re the last bike on the list--Check out the Budget Bicycles eBay store and prepare to be amazed at the BIN prices they are seeking. I've heard the owner is something of a hoarder and has little interest in actually selling any of the bikes there, thus the ridiculous prices.

Just laugh at them - all they're doing is wasting money on listing fees.

Save the lynch mob for when their junk sells at that price

Huh - I just sold a low-end Peugeot mixte frame-set on eBay for $150 plus shipping....... to a buyer n Colorado. I'll have to go look up the town, and see how close to Denver he is.

I went into a "bicycles for poor people" type shop the other day, mind you I wasn't there to deflate their good bike population that wouldn't be very sporting of me, I was however looking for a 531 frameset which supposedly are like garbage to them..I couldn't help but notice the "lower end" road bikes started at 300 there, I actually saw a huffy with a 250 price tag... I did find a frameset in very bad cosmetic shape, not even sure what it actually was but I was quoted 200 bucks cause it's ultra rare apparently.. so rare it was on the bottom of a rusty frame pile and beaten to hell. I think I'm going to start repairing dump bikes and just giving them to homeless people.

Are they completely overhauled and ready to ride? If not, that's why they're not selling.

The folks that buy mixtes want them ready to roll, and they want them to present well. Every mixte I've sold has been to a college or city girl, and none of them want to fix problems..... they want a pretty, retro-trendy bike that is cool and ready to ride. Give them that, and they'll pony up the dough, no matter what the brand or quality hierarchy.

Having said that, the market has cooled off since a year or so ago. Used to be I could list a completely overhauled mixte and it would get a flood of responses. I seldom had it more than a day or two. Now I only get a small handful of responses to the ad, and it takes a week or two to sell.

I don't flip much any more...... I financed my fleet of bikes so I no longer have the incentive, and the market's gone soft.
