Schwinn BCD. You guys are my last hope.

I just built up a 82 Schwinn Traveler recently and I need some help. Does anyone on here have any idea the bcd for the inner chain ring? I had it at a lbs here and the pattern didn't match anything he had on his diagram. Any ideas. I'll post a pic so you can see the exact crank I'm talking about.

Measure two adjacent bolts c-c in mm and multiply by 1.7.

It kind of looks like a Sakae Ringyo (SR) Silstar or Apex, they had a 118mm bcd.

Here's the catalog page: https://waterfordbikes.com/SchwinnCat...0/1982_12.html

I was going to say that the inner ring looks close to 110BCD, but if kroozer is right, you may be stuck with those rings...

My first C&V rehab was my '79-80 Traveler (which I had owned since new but had sat for about 15 years), equiped with the same crankset. Schwinn speced it with that unique crankset and those steel rings (lightweight but never wear out).

I was never able to find a smaller inner ring to help climb the NH hills in my area. Eventually I went with a triple crankset which worked with the original BB.

Thanks for all your help. The guy at the lbc measured it but just said he didn't have anything that would fit it. I asked what it measured to be and he couldn't remember. Oh well.

A machine shop can make/remake anything -for a price.

But it would be easiest and cheaper just to replace the crankset unless you are married to the idea of keeping it original. That's not anything special. At the local bike cooperative they have 50 cranksets in a box that would work for you all for under $20. Go to a bike swap and I bet you could find one for $10 or less. The only hardship would be getting the chainline correct as you might have to go to a longer or shorter spindle/sealed BB to get it where you want it if it is wrong.

Figuring what you would need is pretty simple as you just install it and measure the chainline and compare it to what it used to be. If it is wrong take it apart again and measure your spindle and get one that much different to bring it back.
