Looking to rewrap the bars on my Tommasini Diamante and exploring some options for classic looking tape for a classic steel bike.

I like the Fizik Microtex, but it's not all that soft for my liking.
Using Deda Treforato on my Casati, really like it, but don't want the same tape on two bikes.
Don't really like plain ol' Cinelli cork tape.

Other ideas?
Anyone tried the 2mm Fizik Superlight soft touch tape? It looks to be kinda like the rubberized stuff offered by some, including Lizard Skins. Can't decide if this would be too "New Aged" on a 1990 frameset.

I'm using it on my Della Santa.

No opinion yet. Not enough miles on bike.

Cheaper than Lizard Skin.

Doesn't look all that c&v though.

That is what I was thinking...not the right look for older steel. I'll have to ponder this some more...

Please accept my official application to the Tommasini Lounge. I trust my submission is worthy. You are now viewing my 1991 Diamante which was bought new shortly after my 18th birthday that year. It's been through many rebuilds and configurations through the years, not to mention races, crashes and has about a billion miles on it. It's outlasted many newer carbon wonders and threats to it's status in my fleet. However, it's the best bike I've had and is still my primary ride today.

1991 Tommasini Diamante MS
Campagnolo Chorus 10 speed, DA 10 shifters/J-tek Shiftmate
Campagnolo Delta 5th gen brakes
Campagnolo Record seatpost and headset
Chris King hubs on Velocity Aerohead rims, Sapim Race spokes
Vittoria Open Corsa CX
San Marco Rolls saddle (NOS vintage)
Modolo Q-Even stem/Cinelli 64 bars
Elite Gel cages

You are certainly welcome to not just the Tommasini Lounge, but also BikeForums and the C&V forum with that debut entry.

It's a beauty.

Send an email to Barb at Tommasini in Italy.

She is quite helpful.

A short Tommy story:
Local 32 mile training loop, used by a lot of people. Bunch of intervals, a dozen or so mile plus steep climbs, two false flats, generally accompanied by a buttload of headwind this time of year. My best personal time, previously set on Fabu the Fabulous Red Merckx, was one hour, fifity-six minutes and fifty-eight seconds. Thought I was flying that day.

This past Saturday, did The Loop with another retired guy. Elapsed time was 1:44:47. Yep, more than 12 minutes faster than my previous PB. Steed? The Velocista.

Discuss.

Glad to see this thread hopping again.

Here are some pics of my finished Racing frame. I've heard that Barb Tommasini is very helpful. I emailed a few months ago for more info on this model but got no answer. I used the info@tommasini.it. Is there another address or should I just keep trying that one?

This bike has made appearances in this thread before... Under new ownership.

Haven't owned or ridden anything that I could compare to this. Love it.

I am so happy that you like it.

One of the nicest bikes I owned.

Couldn't possibly be happier with it.

Haven't had it or rode it anywhere without it drawing attention. The build on it is fantastic as well. Love the form and function of this thing, it's to the point it's hard to ride anything else. Kudos to you and thirdgen.

We had a blast on the project.

Total labor of love.

Wish I could have kept it, but I have two boys that are off to college.

Not the right time to have dozens of bicycles anymore.

I'm still selling down the herd, with only an occasional addition.

Copy the BB Code found on the Share icon on your Flickr photo directly into your post like this:

You want to be in Advanced Mode when you start your post so you can preview the post. I selected the Large image size (1024) and edited the BB Code to take out the extra non-essential text. Takes some practice but you'll get the hang of it after a few posts.

Beautiful bike.

I've had my Sintesi frameset just sitting here.

Maybe I should build it one of these days.

I have a full Campy Record groupset on a shelf I think.
