Kawamura-built Nishiki (maybe)? I'm going from memory (not reliable) but I'm sure I can dig deeper and get correct info.

Not a Nishiki but almost sure it is late 70's Japanese and relatively high end my best guess is 79 or so lotus.

this is the kind of thing that gets right under my skin: I know I've seen that BB shell piercing before (and I think there was a thread here that ID'd it long back) but I am hitting a blank.
If it is a Lotus (a good guess) I sure can't find a pic of one to confirm it.
Makes me want to get a lot more of these "frame features" into the Velobase database so more ID's could be made.

Well, I haven't seen them all, but I've never seen any Lotus with a bottom bracket like that.

Glad I was able to find this old thread, cause I love to be able to tie up loose threads (or close the loop, whatever metaphor you like).
There's a Nishiki ONP (Order Nishiki Pro) for sale in the FS section, and it has this very BB shell with the four "petals" or "leaves"...whatever they are supposed to represent.
if it isn't a Kawamura-built Nishiki ONP, it's probably still a Kawamura product: I don't think that distinctive BB pattern would have been sold to any others.
