An Unexpected Find at the Flea Market!

Went with a friend today on our monthly trip to the Flea Market. My main goal was to pick up a favorite hot
sauce, which was accomplished. Out the corner of my eye on the way out, I saw the familiar panel style
decal of an old Trek, which I just had to check out. A couple of minutes, one paper Abe Lincoln and three
paper George Washingtons later, and I was the new owner of this:

An '83 600 in a 19" frame size, without wheels. SR stem, seat post and crank set, Suntour Blue Line Ft. DR
and shifters, but an RT-1000 (?) on the back. It has interesting tangs on the inside of the fork blades.
The '83 620 I have doesn't have these; must be a different fork crown!

Compared to my 21" 620, this one is a little more beat up; a couple good scratches in the top tube, lock
abrasions at the top of the RT, and had an ESGE alloy kickstand mounted on the chain stays. Fortunately, the
stays weren't tweaked (whew). The decals are a little rough, but the 531 decal is 'somewhat' intact:

The Weinmann 605 brakes need some TLC, but the red pads look pretty good. The 60mm stem and bars have to
go, though. I'm thinking utility duty for this old girl; upright touring handlebars with touring levers, perhaps.
First off, I need to find a donor bike for wheels and derailleurs, hoping to find 700's but 27's were OEM. Then, a
good 7 speed FW and run friction... ah, the fun of transforming something used into something useful!

Sorry about the last three photos... Photobucket refuses to save my edits, for some reason.

Big time!

I paid a lot more than that for one two years ago.

At least thirty times that.

Decent bike for the money.

Are you really complaining about getting this bike for $8? Wow, to think I was bragging about finding a 610 for $175 at the local antique shop.

Are you kidding? Absolutely not; the way my post was originally worded it implied that I got the bike for 76¢, which was not the case. Nonetheless, it was a lucky find, for sure.
