GT Psyclone Inherited
Dad is just a bit too big to ride this thing...
Its a GT Psyclone from the early 90s. Dad always said: "Made of Steel, don't you forget it!" and "if you ever pawn it, I WILL kill you".
So whats so special about this bicycle? It seems light as aluminum but supposedly steel... very nice ride for a hard tail. Good thing I live where there aren't any real protruding rocks. Says "hand crafted in Colorado" I remember being a kid when GT was bought by "Pacific" something or another...I remember dad being sad.

You either love old GT's or you don't. They were highly innovative and amazing bikes at the time, I've got a 92 Tequesta myself and although it's near the bottom of their better bikes I love it dearly. I think it was the 96 lineup most of the bikes were even banned from racing. The triple triangle is viewed by a lot of people as a gimmick and I can't say if it's placebo or not but it sure feels like it rides stiffer and better then my other rigid mtb's, and the weight is sooo low for what the bike is.. so a suggestion, dad may be too big to ride the bike anymore but that doesn't mean he can't tell you what's so special about it.

Negatory on selling it. It climbs unlike anything I've ever ridden.

I hope these photos tell you something. I'm not too sure about any technical stuff in regards to how it was welded. I just talked to my father and he says it should be TIG welded. He doesn't exactly remember when he got it, he just said "Mid 90s" Also mentioned Columbus steel.
***edit*** BTW, interesting side note: about a year ago I was hit while riding by a Ford F-250 in town...it completely mangled my back wheel and pushed me and the bike up against the back of another car. Amazingly...the frame, as far as myself and bike shop could tell, sustained no damage...neat, isn't it?

Looks like fillet-brazed to me Later Psyclones were built with Reynolds 853 tubing. The decal under the bottle cage in pic 1 indicates it is the 853 variation.

Fillet-brazed and 853 sounds nice to me. You should clean it up and then get some action shots of it on the trails to send to pops. I'm sure it would put a smile on your dad's face.
Also, there's a good vintage section over on mtbr.com if you are looking for more info.
