1985 Raleigh Grand Prix(pic heavy)

If I am not mistaken, they only made this model with the chrome headtube for the year 1985.
In fact, the 4 Raleigh Sport bikes of that year where the Prestige, Competition, Super Course, and the Grand Prix. Weight was, starting with the Prestige, 22 lbs, 22 lbs, 23lbs, and the Grand Prix was 24 lbs..I have the 85 Prestige and Competition, and been looking hard for a Super Course and the Grand Prix in my size, and for a decent price. Low and behold on Ebay, they had the 85 Grand Prix with bid starting at $50, but local pickup only. BTW, it was my size.

Communicated with the seller and told him if I won it, I would pay the shipping cost. He agreed and told me to start bidding. I laughed, because I don't bid until the last 2 seconds!! Anyway, I got the bike for $51 and paid $50 for shipping. I told the seller, that I didn't nee the wheels. The bike frame and all parts except the wheels arrived yesterday. The finish on frame, paint and decals to me is a 7 or 8 out of 10. It is red.. Here it is with my Prestige and Competition.

Very cool! The Chrome head tube and stays where made in 1984 and '85. Raleigh and Raleigh badged bicycles were supplied for the 1984 US Olympic cycling team, hence the Racing USA decal.

My' 84 Supercourse

My' 84 Supercourse

That is super sweet!! , I am finding out that the 84/85 Sport Raleighs,(Prestige/Competition/Super Course/Grand Prix) are hard to find. And to find one in the right size and not banged up. The demand and supply are low on these too. Hence, I was albe to nail ths one for $51. I have been looking for the 84/85 Super Course and Grand Prix for over a year. Did see one Grand Prix on Ebay, but the seller wanted $549 and it looked like it had rust.

Most likely mine will be making the trip to Nashville..

I had a 1985 Prestige in 9/10 condition. It was one bad mofo and I wish I still had it.

CehowardGS or anyone that knows these bikes, do you happen to know the diameter of the seatpost on the Gran Prix "Racing USA"? I recently re-aquired the Grand Prix I bought new in 1985 (when I was a kid!). The OEM seat post has seen better days and I'd like to replace. I have a few 27.2 sizes laying around, but it's just a bit too big. Thanks for the feedback.

Welcome to C&V.

Your seatpost is 26.6 or 26.8. The size is probably stamped on the post below the maximum line.

That Grand Prix is a great find for the $. These chrome Raleighs are some of my favorite bikes. I did my '84 Competition resto-mod style. It's pearl white like yours with yellow decals instead of red and blue. I think that's '84 vs. '85?
