They are cool looking, and the fact they're called "rim crushers" doesn't hurt either. Nice bit of product naming, there.

I think the rim crushers are the other model and they seem to be paired as a set.. I did a little searching and found lots of sets with one pair of the "rim crushers" and one pair of the "pipe dreams"

Welcome to the threads. I think there is a ton of interest in your bike and where you ride. Stay posting here.

How old does a bike need to be to be considered "Vintage."

Cool old bike- I wouldn't mind one of those if I could find one in my size. I like the Rans Stratus and TerraTrike tandem in the background, too.

I have the frame stripped down and discovered the BB to be a Sampson fluted titanium spindle with cartridge bearings and alloy cups, adjustable for chainline. Sweet! And who won't love that retro classic, thumb shifters!!

The skewers are Ringle. The Ti version were called 'Ti Stix' but they also sold a steel version. They are generally referred to as Ringle Holey skewers now.

Cool! I have the bike stripped to the frame now, and it looks like it will clean up nicely. I ordered new cartridge bearings for the Sampson Ti BB, more on principle than necessity. The next biggie is to get a new rear derailleur and see how the hubs and rims clean up. The hubs are smooth, but the rear hub feels "gooey".

Does anyone know if the steerer on the Rock Shox Magnesium fork is easily replaceable, because this on is kind of rusty.

In the ongoing saga formally known as "cleaning up the Ti Mountain bike", I've discovered the most unusual wheel lacing pattern. Check out the spoke lacing of the front wheel, shown below. In an unrelated event, after I replaced the cartridge bearings in the BB I still had a little play. ???? I contacted Sampson and learned that the alloy cups are no longer available for the Ti BB, but he suggested a little teflon tape around the bearing. 2 wraps, worked like a charm!

Hello Mobilemail,

I'm reviving this thread and continuing the story of this beautiful Miyata Elevation 8000. I have been in touch with you a while back as i believe this same bike (Frame at least) ended up with me.

I'm sharing with you the completed build project as it took a while sourcing all the parts. I was lucky enough to come across some original Fatmax II forks that came on the stock bike and will update the build in due time.

This Titanium Beauty has Full XTR M900 groupset and Araya TM810F rims. The forks are Tange K.I.S.S made for Tioga. Opted for a cool wide and curvy titanium handlebars made by Seven Cycles.

Overall result is astonishing and the bike rides and handles awesome !! One of the best bikes i have ridden !

Oh yeah, sure, rub it in! Sure I sold an awesome bike for chump change!

Seriously, I'm glad that it's in the hands of someone who really appreciates it. While I appreciated its uniqueness I have never really been a mountain biker, so it really deserved to go to someone with the right kind of love.

Good job! Now ride it like you stole it!!

I suppose I could slide this in, since you seem to appreciate quality vintage https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-vi...e-classic.html

It didn't come cheap , more so when i add up the cost of the final outcome. But i tell you what - For what it is and how it rides- It is still a steal

Great Looking Trek BTW, but the only Treks i have a real soft spot for are the 91s and 92s both Aluminum and Single Track series. Good luck with the sale. If anymore 90s Miyata MTB, please let me know.

Good to see you on here Elev12K . I haven't had a chance to give it a polishing. I tried to source original decals too from Gil M but he couldn't replicate the full set.

Any pointers in that regard are always welcome and appreciated
