Celo Europa (Colnago) info?

I've gone and bought a Celo Europa frameset with bad paint and some rust, but searching archives learned that this is a Colnago (Clone-nago?) built as a house brand for one Marcel Calbourne in So Cal. This model has stickers on the chainstays that say "Celo Super" and flat fork crown with "Celo" engraved on tops. The only serial numbers I see anywhere is just one number "7" on the right dropout (Campy, short) and the same "7" on the steering column. Any info as to the date of this frame? Is it equivalent to a (?) model Colnago, or built to different specs for Marcel? Anybody own one? And lastly: I need a replacement crown race for the "Colnago" brand headset: It's beefier than a Campy...I'm sure somebody made it for 'nago (Ofmega, Gipiemme?) but I need to replace it with one that fits, the rest of the HS is good. Muchas Gracias in advance!

They were made by Colnago for Celo-Europa/Marcel Calborn. Marcel still has them hanging all over in his shop, along with Colnago bikes & frames of all vintage. The Celo-Europa is a nice frame, and your probably rides great. My guess is that the geometry is the same as Colnago, though supposedly Marcel had some say (according to Marcel...not sure I believe everything he says - another story) in the design or styling of the Colnago Master Equalteral (sp?) and the Arabesque frames. I think Marcel's present shop is called "BiciSport", and located in Laguna Hills, CA. Maybe he can help with dating it from the serial #. I'm sure Marcel also has some of those headsets around for sale, but if not, let me know. I've got one in my box of headsets. I believe they were Ofmega, BTW. Also, have a look at:

Thanks for that info and link, T.O.G. My frame looks very similar to that in the catalog, except it's got the full-chrome fork and chrome chainstay/dropout faces described as the "Celo Europa" model, same lugs, seat cluster and other details, same red color tho very faded now. I'll search for marcel's shop and see if i can get that crown race, but i might take you up on buying yours. Cheers!

Bumping a very old thread apparently, I was investigating this brand "Marcel Calborn" after taking on the conservation-effort rebuild of the bike pictured here with yours truly.
No two alike perhaps, as these were offered over many years it seems. This one has the Gilco crimped frame tubing.
I like the aero shifter mount with the C-Record retrofriction shifters, works really well after freeing them up with lube, and those C-Record derailers easily handling a 12-28t cassette with 39-53t chainrings!
I found the Colnago tape as old stock, has an inner layer of pure cork with a vinyl(?) plastic cover layer. Very difficult to wrap well with such a non-stretchy tape that was also on the short side for the Cinelli #66 bars. I think it took me two hours to completion just wrapping the bars while fitting both brake cables.
Sorry for no detail photos just yet.

Call them and see if they can help. The shop moved some time ago, during a time I did not touch a bicycle for over 10-15 years. He used to be in Manhattan Beach and I use to see Celo Europa frames all the time at all local races. This was back in the mid -late 80s. Calborn was kinda a jerk, but then again we were pimple faced 18 or 91 year old riders and he knew we had no money for his Colnago or celo frames so, he shined us on even though we rode there after the race on our Benotto and Gios.

this IS a very ancient thread: since posting this in 2005 I have sold the frame in question, spoke to Marcel hisself on the phone (twice) and he's still a bit of a d*ck, but he's pretty honest about his desire to sell new merchandise to make $$$ and there's no $ in talking to anybody about old product long ago sold. Anyway, looking forward to those detail pix of your recent Celo purchase.

Not a chance, no Celo frames for me. If I buy a steel frame it would be for show, something I look at hanging on the wall while mumbling to myself about the good old days like all old farts do. They sure are pretty.
