Mafac Brake Pad Help
I'm in need of some Mafac brake pads. The problem is I have 5 dot brake holders. The price on pads alone is close to $100 for originals. Does anyone know of an aftermarket pad that fits the longer holders?

If you are not too worried about keeping the original look, most pads for cantilever brakes (with the post molded in) fit perfectly on Mafac calipers.

maybe you can replace the whole 5 dot unit with one of these.

I despise adjusting Cantilever brakes and Mafacs are no better. I put some V.O. cantilever brake holders/pads on mine so if I ever get them adjusted right I can simply remove the pads and install new ones.
Unless it was something uber odd I would never buy and rely on a 'vintage' brake pad/block, most are just too hard stiff and dry

Is there a reason the Koolstop pads won't work as replacement pads? They're not cheap but they work very well. I think I also heard somewhere that the Mathauser pads are coming available again.

Cantilever pads are not an alternative for someone that is trying to preserve the vintage look. I wouldn't use them.

I'm sure I could buy some 4 dot holders and use the Kool Stop pads. I just don't want to buy another set of holders when I have a perfectly good set now. From what I can see the 5 dot brake pads might have been for tandems.
