2013 Spring scrap metal drive plunders of Finland..

I thought I would run a thread of my favorite time of year...the local scrap drive.

It lasts 2 weeks and just started Saturday, Over the years I have hit major scores in flippers.
I get at least one 250€ flipper every year. There are other pickers so competition is growing,
I can only afford 2 visits a day,
last fall it was as if a few horders were there all day.
I thought I would let the forumites in on my plunders.
SUNDAY
Score one
Crescent 55cm Mixte
actually a nice piece with potential,
altus deraileurs, silstar cranks, weinmann rims, shimano brakes are rusty-but i have some clean weinmanns to throw in the pot.
-I will get rid of this as-is as i dont have time for it.
hopefully a finnish forumite will take it from me for maybe 40€?

SUNDAY
second visit
score two
no pics- someone built a fake fixie and sprayed it black and orange, I wanted to check if it had a duomatic hub, I got even more lucky-A Sachs Automatic hub-I took it home, put air in the tires and rode it, its cool, at a certain speed it shifts!
the hub will salvaged and the rest will go back.

Score three
Jupiter aluminium frame nexus 7
I watched this come along with score 4, a young couple came and dropped them BOTH off.
after they were gone I walked over.
the rear wheel was partialy on, and the brand new continental tyre was not on the rim, the tube was hanging out, and the "old" tire on the handlebars
At home I noted this is a NEW bicycle, even the tires are in perfect condition, I installed a used tube and the original tire, spent 5 minutes cleaning it with a rag- its a 2012 model and maybe driven once?

Sunday
score four
this MTB came from the same fools.
Aluminium frame, note the spoke pattern-sweet bike
I put air in the tires, dusted it off-again its a 2012 model-never seen a dirt road.
this is a good start- but if the cream comes now I doubt I will have another score this good this spring...

Well we scored a Finnish...Exercise bike. Have to get picture but it is a Tunturi Amerec W. Tag says it was Made in Finland. Tunturi doesn't distribute to the USA as best I can tell, so it probably came over with a military family somewhere along the way.

Looks like you did you did pretty well to me.

we got so many of those exercise bikes they come to the scrap- i tried to flip them one year but its not as easy as a bike.
the world is full of used worthless exercise equipment, I flipped a few rowing machines-thay actually sell.

OMG What great scores. If I were you I would use vacation days, sick days, whatever it took to stake out that spot as long as the drive is on. Like Christmas day. Can't wait for you to post more.

Yup, even though Winter is loath to release its grip on Thunder Bay, and surrounding area, the bikes are beginning to flow. This week the Dump coughed up an old Asian Bianchi and a alloy Giant road bicycle with some kick butt wheels on it. The Giant is anything but complete, but the wheels (Ultegra hubs to Mavic Open Pro rims, SS spokes) are just what I need for my Cyclops...

Free Dump Week takes place in a few weeks. During that week, I pack a lunch, take a big bottle of water, a good book (and reading glasses) and head out to the Landfill Site. My Christmas in June!!!

Almost forgot this little gem. Nothing fancy but barely ridden...

A friend fished a 4130 Steve Bauer out of the Grand river for me... only decent find so far this year. Needs wheels but I have parts for it.

A year or two back, a nearby neighborhood was having a big trash day where people could put out large items and they would be hauled away. I went in hopes of maybe scoring a bike.. but there were already swarms of people grabbing anything of value. One guy in a truck would stop and grab any electronics without even looking at it. a bike wouldn't last a second..

Yeah, every 6 months we have a bulk pick-up day in our neighborhood. Nothing I've ever put out on the curb lasted so long as to actually be picked up by the trash man. The gleaners drive up and down the streets all week, picking up anything they think they can sell. They even picked up a fake oriental rug that the dog had diarrhea on and chewed a corner off, that had been in the rain for a day. Ick.

Finding a bike out there would be like finding a unicorn.

no scores...
some of my throwbacks vanished!
so the pickers have shown their faces..
went by 2 times, and there was a few possible low end flippers-I passed as there was nothing of value today.
some days are better then others
