I'm a DKO Failure!

I picked up a bike as part of a package deal, the bike was overpriced, but it was buy them all, or buy none of them.

I knew if I gave the bike a full refurbishment, I would probably be upside down on it. So the goal was to just do a quick DKO job on it.

So I pull it out, just to check the basics. Hmm, that front wheel is not spinning very well, lets take it off and check it. Crunchy bearings, OK, lets rebuild the hub.

Well, I better check the rear too. Yep, rebuilt it.

Hmm, it sure could use new bar tape, and that saddle is torn. On goes a saddle from the bin, and new bar tape.

Those wheels sure could use a truing. Up on the truing stand they go.

Then I take it for a test ride. Really noisy brakes. New pads, and the noise is gone.

Etc., etc....

So ends my DKO career....

The good news is I did sell it, broke even on the bike, and the other one I bought with it was the score. So I guess the bike gods looked out for me.

How did it ride? A true DKO failure would mean keeping it for yourself!

The other one of the pair is a keeper, but WRK101 already has an Italian girlfriend with that name!

And he also has more "Chicago' bikes than I have cousins.

Just think of it as doing the world a service. Another bicycle that doesn't need to be mined.

I have also tried the dko thing and failed. Next thing I knew a wobbly wheel turned into an entire bike dismantled on my kitchen floor.
